Haven't seen the film but I'm more in shock that it's being compared to Three kings

Apart from his voice Josh Gad as Le Fou was good but again, the pub song just wasn't as good as it could have been.
It'd be good to see someone edit out all the pointless twaddle like the enchantress backstory and the silly Paris section
The beast song, though. Fantastic. That's the one thing that I think the animated film is missing, a big Beast number.

There's so little to say about this that is good. Well shot, sums up the good. Everything else is boring, sterile garbage. Best war film ever, some banana splits have said. Three Kings gooseberry fools on this from such a massive height it would obliterate the earth.
There is no characterisation. So it is boring. That's the long and short of it. It's not bold to ignore that important aspect of film making, it's lazy. Don't get me wrong, it's fine not to conform with typical cinematic tropes if you have something special. But this film is garbage. Tedious, no stakes, indulge-fest about something that should be anything but.

Given that I'm unlikely to see this film in a regular cinema, let alone an Imax one, I do wonder what substance is actually left once that "big screen spectacle" is stripped away.

How the hell can you say this film was boring?
Also no stakes? Are the lives of 400k people stuck on a beach not high enough stakes for you?

Ive just watched the prestige. Not seen it before. good film. The thing i dont get is why didnt hugh jackman at the end ask him if he tied the knot? I figure his wifes death was jackmans motivation to ruin christian bale, so with his dying breath why didnt he ask him about that? Also even if it was the other twin who got scolded by micheal caine for suggesting the other type of knot, then surely bale 2 would have known he shouldnt tie the knot because its dangerous. Im trying to work out who the baddy was - hung Bale , alive Bale or Jackman?
Angiers is so far into his obsession at this point that he's almost completely forgotten about his wife and the knot. His hatred for Borden is now so absolute the original source has become irrelevant. He straight up says this to his assistant earlier in the film. If anything, the fact that he doesn't ask just adds to his character. Also there are no bad guys, just men driven to horrific acts through obsession. Again, this is stated in the closing dialogue between the two survivors.
It's the nuances and the questions the plot makes you ask yourself, as you have done, that I think marks this as a genuinely extraordinary film.I also just watched memento. Not seen that before. Also a good film. I kind of feel worse for watching Memento than the Prestige though.
EDIT: Id say on reflection Memento is the better film than the prestige. Even though its confusing, the storyline seems to tie up better.
Funnily enough, I watched Memento this arvo too and about an hour in I realised I'd never actually seen it all the way through. It's a nice little trick piece, the stitching together of the story is masterfully done and it's clear that it set the tone for Nolan's entire career. However, the story itself is largely uninteresting and once you've pieced it together there's little appeal to watching it through again. There's no ambiguity, no secrets, it's a standard crime story with largely unlikeable and two dimensional characters told in a fascinating way.
