Snyder? What a strawberry floating joke of a director.

I went to see this movie in the cinema, almost burst out laughing at the 'martha' bit. Actually bought the extended cut for my brother to see his reaction.

Gerald's Game - 8/10

That scene! I really enjoyed this one. Excellent performances all round. But that scene. strawberry floating hell.

The Evil Dead (new one) - 7/10

This wasn't bad at all, certainly better than I was expecting. I have nothing to judge it on, I have only ever seen the third Evil Dead film, which was more like a comedy.

Paranormal Activity - 7/10

Still think this film is a bit underappreciated. I mean, it's not amazing by any stretch, but it does what it sets out to do. Much better than the crap that followed it. Also dat female lead :datass:

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter - 0/10

Generally have really enjoyed the Resident Evil series as a B-movie level comedy horror gooseberry fool franchise, but I can't even ironically say this was a good movie. I almost gave Iain Glen a point for chewing the scenery off and looking like he was having a great time doing it, but then I remembered that he debased himself by appearing in the movie in the first place. Truly abominable. The reboot can't come fast enough - please just adapt the strawberry floating original game's story.

The girlfriend has been watching all of the Resident Evil CG films. They're strawberry floating abominations. :dread: The Final Chapter is like Citizen Kane by comparison.

Oh dear. This was kind of terrible. Ridiculous time travel shenanighans.

Nah, I've seen Degeneration, Damnation and Vendetta, I enjoyed them in a schlocky, "this is shite" kind of a way. The Final Chapter was just rotten.

Spectre - **

Really lost interest in this one about half way through. The plot felt like it was barely there, and was very reliant on callbacks to the previous Daniel Craig films. Also, I know Bond is supposed to be a callus womaniser, but the love interest bits in this felt particularly gratuitous. First he shafts Monica Bellucci after murdering her husband, and now leaving her life in danger, (we never actually find out if the American embassy got her to safety before she got killed, did we? I guess you're supposed to assume they did, but given the nature of Spectre, it seems unlikely that she'd be able to slip into protection that easily.) then he gets Mr White to kill himself, before putting his daughter in harms way, then getting his end away in her, too. It wouldn't be so bad if these films didn't also try to play off the idea that Bond actually cares for and is genuinely in love with half of these disposable women.

They also somehow managed to make the most boring car chase I've seen in a film in a long time. So dull, they managed to fit an expositionary phone call in the middle of it on a hands free kit.

Blade Runner 2049. - 8/10

A very good movie, it has a lot of time to breathe and slowly make it's way to it's ending. I didn't love it as much as Arrival but that was a classic.

It feels like it was made 20 + years ago and there are no silly jump cuts or pointless moments.

Amazing cast, leading lady was insanely watchable. I just loved where they went with the story and characters. A very brave and slow movie which is worth a watch and shows why the original is the classic it is.

I can see why a modern audience would be turned off by the run time and pace of it. But it's made for the fans of the original and is very respectful to it.

Also the sets are amazing.

Thinner - 7/10

Very watchable Stephen King film on Netflix. Excellent ending, only distraction was the voice of Fat Tony playing one of the main characters.

Denster wrote:So, I watched the original blade runner again (after watchingthe latest one) and I did view it with a kinder eye.

I still don’t hold it in the esteem others do and never will but given the era it was made and technical limitations then - the breadth of its vision and scope and its influence on its genres and on filmmaking in general - it deserves its place among the greats. I still think its mythos and nostalgia have added to its allure and there are several flaws but still very good.
Still prefer TDK by a mile of course.

Spot on Denny! I've always hated this movie. To me, as a youngster watching it back in 1982, all I wanted from a Sci-Fi movie was lightsabres, laser guns and spaceships. I rated it 3/10 back then

I bought the movie last week to watch again. As an adult, and pretty much what Denny has said, I'd agree. It's more of a solid 7/10 it's good, but it aint great. And yes, The Dark Knight (9/10) by a country mile.......

Whatever you think of the film as a piece of story telling, you've got to admit its a classic in terms of how it looks.

Been watching the ridiculous amounts of documentaries and behind the scenes stuff on the 3 disc version (4 discs if you have the recent 4K HDR release), I guess its hard to recommend watching 5 or 6 hours of behind the scenes stuff about a film you don't really like, but the amount of detail that went into making that film is pretty staggering.

Interesting, my view is almost the opposite. When I saw this at the cinema I thought it was brilliant. Many years later it is still a good film, but now I don't find it as enjoyable as when I first saw it.

Scott has always been great at achieving a great look for his films. Set design and aesthetics are his strongest asset.
In that respect the original is fantastic. No question.

Definitely, there's also some great other content on the discs that's well worth watching too, almost missed it after I'd finished Dangerous Days, but there's almost as much content again in other bits and pieces.

Angry Video Game Nerd Movie - 2/10: having enjoyed AVGN on YouTube over the years thought I'd give the Movie a go as it's on Amazon Prime, truly truly terrible wish I'd never bothered.

Sidenote: must say as well RetroWareTV's 'Video Games Years' TV Show is on Prime, well worth a watch.
