Blah blah didn't watch it at the cinema so it's not the same blah blah. This was a decent film, a bit sanitised in places but entertaining nonetheless. That One Direction guy wasn't gooseberry fool like I thought he'd be.

7/10

This is exactly what I thought when I went to see it in the cinema tbh. So I don't think you missed much.

It was a great film, though my pedantic side couldn't get over the fact that the post war town centre hotel could be clearly seen on Dunkerque's skyline.

The single most impressive aspect of Dunkirk was its sound design. The scream of the Stukas, the bullets hammering through the boat hull and the silence of the final Spitfire were remarkable when heard at the cinema and I imagine less so at home.

I was still mildly disappointed however, and would put it towards the bottom of Nolan's work.

I agree, the best part of it for me was the scoring. I know pretty much every film on the planet uses music pace to mirror visuals on screen, but some of the flight sequences
in the film take this idea a bit further. The build up is great at points.

I had an issue with the story pacing and narrative. It is easily Nolan's worst film.

I'd rank it above The Dark Knight Rises and Insomnia, but not much else in his oeuvre.

Why do Frenchmen never have two eggs for breakfast?

Because one egg is quite satisfactory

I honestly don't know how someone could be disappointed by Dunkirk and The Dark Knight Rises yet defend The Last Jedi so passionately.

Are you sure you watched the opening scene in TLJ?

I didn't enjoy Dunkirk that much. It looked and sounded fantastic but I just found it a bit of a slog. Not as bad as the mess that was The Dark Knight Rises though.

Logan.

Good film. Almost cried twice, especially at one of those final scenes. I love X-Men.

"General Hugs"... Followed by awkward misunderstandings and the start of something similar to a yo' mama joke. It's an equal balance of good and bad throughout the whole film. But then - what do I know?

I did. And I laughed. Not just at the perfectly acceptable humour but at the inevitable tears from those not possessing of sense or perspective, who would cry from the rooftops their tortuous disdain. And as the hearty, clapping waves pearled from my throat I was content, for I saw my inevitable exile before me, looked into its eyes and spat my laughter in its face.

Yeah your right, it's a sense of perspective that stops the awful humour from being good.

On the plus side you must get a great deal of satisfaction out of literally any comedic moments in film. I would imagine the lack of any sort of controversy would negatively affect your enjoyment though.

I agree but being a good film is about not having really, really, really awful parts.

So soon the hour rolls around again. I rouse myself from an ever deepening slumber and stumble to the fireplace. With trembling digits I extract the Tear Jar from its awnings, smoothing the dust from its hellish surface. I smile mirthlessly at the darkness.

Harvest time has come.
