What a bizarre movie. I mean seriously, what the strawberry float. Bits of it are like properly terrible (the opening fifteen set piece in particular is spectacularly inept) but I was strangely captivated by the whole thing. Guy Ritchie's directorial style is so unsuited to this it becomes hilarious, but it makes the film so odd that there's this weird 'what the strawberry float is the next scene going to be like' thing that sucks you in. So, crap CG octopus woman, David Beckham acting, slomo action that looks like a videogame, 'lad banter', out of place soundtrack and a gigantic CG snake. It's a three out of ten film that entertained the hell out of me, so it's getting a five.

5/10.

I had to watch the film in two parts as it was so awful. However as you say it made me want to watch the second half the next day as it was oddly captivating.

It was a strange experience, my other half wanted to watch it as I had no interest in it at all. It was definitely more entertaining than I was expecting, compared to my last gooseberry fool movie (The Great Wall) it was a bloody masterpiece.

Second time watch. I remember seeing this years back for the first time, incredible hyped going in but disappointed coming out. Past me was an idiot, superb film with a sublime cast.

I wanted to like this, i really did, the shootout scene was terrific, but it was just so damn long, the story just seemed to grind on and on and i was left wondering if it was ever going to end.

Baby Driver

Hadn't seen it before but I've watched it twice this week and I absolutely love it. Feels effortlessly cool and I was much more aware and perceptive of Edgar Wright's unique style the second time round. Glad to spot lots of in-film self references that I missed the first time, as well as plenty to the Cornetto trilogy. I really wish he'd been able to direct Ant Man. Not that it wasn't amazing anyway but just imagine...

Snowpiercer 8/10

Better than I remembered. It's still an odd one, it takes some drastic tonal shifts once the tailenders reach the front sections, but the narrative arc is fantastic and it presents some tableaux that are extremely memorable. Made me look forward to the TV version for sure.

Lady Bird

Pretty much the perfect film. Very funny, sentimental in a good way, and great characters. I think it was Greta Gerwig's directorial debut and I doff my cap to her. Brilliantly done.

It's a great film. Shame Harvey Weinstein killed it on release because (unsurprisingly) he couldn't take being told no...

I agree. There's some fat that could be trimmed from that film. But man, the bank escape shootout was phenomenal. One of the best gun fights on film.

Dargon Ball Z: Resurection 'F'.

My first real foray into the DBZ universe. Some of my friends who are big DBZ fans were 'horrified' I went with this feature film first, but it did give me a little more insight to the DBZ universe and while not an amazing feature I walked away entertained enough to start looking at the series proper.

That scene is the film's only saving grace. It's an incredible scene, as is the intro heist, but I really don't understand what people see in it as the rest is awfully dull, great cast aside.

Sorted.

On my first watch I felt the same with Heat, far too long but trying it again and knowing what to expect, enjoyed it far more.

Now, Once Upon a Time in America, now THERE is a film that is about an hour too long. Felt I lived a life of someone else by the end of it, not in a good way.

Gringo

Good fun, definitely worth a watch.

Charlize Theron plays a vile character, which is hard for me because I always see her as Arrested Development's Rita .

David Oyelowo is very likable and I just seem to love Sharlto Copley in whatever he does.

The Colony

A low budget horror i watched on the Horror channel last night, starred Laurence Fishburne and Bill Paxton. It had some interesting ideas and while it wasn't exactly amazing, it was certainly passable for an evening when there was nothing else on.

Leviathan - 8

Well shot and atmospheric social commentary of sorts, even if it's all rather bleak and hopeless. Have had this on my laptop for 3 years now so I'm glad I finally got round to seeing it.

Mom and Dad - 2018

Bloody awesome Nic Cage and Selma Balir film about a world wide event where parents are killing their kids.

Basically The Happening but good.

Lovely sound track too, with Chains of Love being a standout song.

Also Lance Henrikson is in it, which always makes things better.

A dark comedy with Nick Cage turning it up to 11.

Wish my image sig would work

Funnily enough this film's director also directed Crank!
