Such a strawberry floating classic, just the perfect movie.

I don't disagree but still prefere the first.

Terminator 1 is a much, much better movie than 2. 2 is a great action movie but the slasher movie vibe of T1 is my favourite. Plus it has no annoying kids. I think T1 is to T2 as Alien is to Aliens

Agreed, Michael Biehn is in the better film in both series :shifty:

I have just watched 10 Cloverfield Lane on channel 4, I know it’s not a new film but I knew nothing about it, I thought it was really good until near the end when it goes from believable to silly

6/10

3 Billboards - 9/10

Loved this, other than it obviously featuring billboards, I knew next to nothing about it. Great performances by the entire cast and a great mix of comedy and tragedy. Lost it’s way slightly at the end, but overall a worthy contender for the Oscars.

Terminator 2 > Terminator

I wouldn't say that T2 is perfect, but it has aged really well. The stunts are incredible.

I was really looking forward to watching this one, but it wasn’t as good as I was hoping. There were funny bits, but overall it just didn’t make me laugh as much as I was hoping.

Jason Isaacs was fantastic though and should have had more scenes.

Yup. It was oddly pedestrian considering the calibre of the cast and director. Stalin's son's ridiculous insults were the only thing that got a genuine laugh.

That's because T1 was the better movie.

Not normally into horror films of any type but I picked one up on the cheap recently which I've been meaning to watch for a while.

The Babadook.

I actually thought it was fantastic, nice setting of the scene for the first 30-35 mins and then it gets into it, made my hair stand up on ends at a couple of points. No idea if I'm having a change of heart regarding this genre but I really would reccomend The Babadook if you haven't seen it, even if you're not into this genre.

The Babadook is a polarising film on here. Personally, I think it's brilliant.

I just watched a film called In Time. There is a very interesting concept to it — a real shame then that everything else about it is so stunningly awful. It's the worst written, acted and produced film I have seen for a long time. Justin Timberlake truly is a horrendous actor .

Oddly, I hated The Babadook but kind of liked In Time.

Just to round things off I thought both of those films were gooseberry fool.

Heat 9/10

Second time watch. I remember seeing this years back for the first time, incredible hyped going in but disappointed coming out. Past me was an idiot, superb film with a sublime cast.

The Greatest Showman

I'm usually big on musicals, but there's just something about this that doesn't make it feel as exciting as a musical should be. I'm not sure if it's just that I don't like Hugh Jackman's voice (like, he can't sing high notes without instantly switching on the vibrato) or I'm not keen on Pasek and Paul's recent explosion of fame, because a lot of their songs sound quite similar. There's been a lot of buzz about the soundtrack, and how it's such a commercial success, but I think the reason it's had such commercial success is that the music is just like, pop banger after pop banger. And that's not to say it's bad, but a couple of the songs sounded like they could be in amongst the smattering of decent entries into the Eurovision Song Contest and you wouldn't notice (with the exception of that Zac Efron/Hugh Jackman duet, but that isn't a good song because it's almost Hugh Jackman... rapping).

Rewrite the Stars was great, though. I've always loved that kind of acrobatics. Zendaya

Talking about the plot now, the performers seemed pretty quick to forgive Barnum for being a bigheaded prick when he decided to shaft all the freaks in favour of Jenny Lind. He literally slams the door in their faces at the party, then chuffs off, and then they're all buddy buddy because he's feeling sorry for himself too?

Also the CGI just looked really cheap in places. I get why they had to use it for the animals (and were they obviously CGI so no-one thought "bloody hell they can't really be riding along on elephants and making actual lions jump through fire, can they?"), but there were other scenes here and there that didn't look great. Maybe that was just the version I'd downloaded, but I guess we'll see. Was wondering if it was a deliberate choice, because the critic slates Barnum repeatedly for "never showing anything real".

5/10

It's watchable enough. Just hope the bubble bursts soon so we don't get more movie musicals ruined by trying to emulate the soundtrack's commercial success...

Just found this on YouTube of one of Pasek and Paul's songs from Smash being sung by Loren Allred (who does the vocal performances for Jenny Lind in the Greatest Showman):

She's got a much nicer voice there than she had in the film, too.

Rise of the Footsoldier 3: The Pat Tate story.

Largely made up telling of the rise of infamous Essex gangster Pat Tate.

Violent and daft, but good for a giggle. 5/10

King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword.

What a bizarre movie. I mean seriously, what the strawberry float. Bits of it are like properly terrible (the opening set piece in particular is spectacularly inept) but I was strangely captivated by the whole thing. Guy Ritchie's directorial style is so unsuited to this it becomes hilarious, but it makes the film so odd that there's this weird 'what the strawberry float is the next scene going to be like' thing that sucks you in. So, crap CG octopus woman, David Beckham acting, slomo action that looks like a videogame, 'lad banter', out of place soundtrack and a gigantic CG snake. It's a three out of ten film that entertained the hell out of me, so it's getting a five.

5/10.
