One of my all time favourites.
I also love this. Saw it at the cinema 3 times back in the day, bought it on video and also the DVD box set once DVD was invented. Shame everything that followed was either bearable or simply poor.

2012

That was both depressing and laugh out loud silly.

Some nice special effects, though.

The Witch - 9/10

The wife and I chose to watch this as our annual Halloween flick, mainly because neither of us had seen it before and it seemed a bit different to the usual slasher/ghost films, and bloody hell it was different. Genuinely unsettling and the constant ratcheting up of tension and dread was just so good. Really quite a disturbing film, with almost impenetrable dialogue at times but that almost made it more intriguing and helped with the atmosphere.

Top film.

Dat Goat! Best goat since The Church.

Just got back from seeing Happy Death Day 6/10

It's nice enough but not scary, hugely funny or unique. Just another horror movie. Also the trailer has a detail which reveals the killer's identity early on. So that's a bit gooseberry fool.

Thor: Ragnarok - 4/5

The comedy was a touch too try-hard in several places, but most of the jokes land and they’re great. They’ve made Thor really arrogant and smug, and a touch sweary for some reason. His character arc in his first 2 films is him veering away from that and gaining humility. Seems a bit haphazard to just bin all that off.

It was apparently at the request of Hemsworth who was sick of being the straight man. From what I've seen and heard it looks like it was a good decision.

It jars a little bit if you’re overly familiar with the first 2 Thor movies, but...hey, maybe his time hanging out with humans has lightened him up?
Great movie anyway - the 80’s vibe, the vividness of the colours, the sense of spectacle...top notch.

Leatherface 7/10 pretty good and more gruesome than expected.

Creep 2 7/10 just as good as the first one.

He was definitely the best on-screen goat I've ever seen, terrifying :dread:

Honestly though, I don't know why the father of the family didn't just challenge him to throwing a kettle over a pub? Problem solved.

Hellraiser - 6/10

+ Great monster design
+ Intriguing concept
+ Some good effects (for the time)

- Leading lady was pretty annoying
- Some really bad dialogue
- Some silly moments

As much as it pains me to say it, if this was re-made like-for-like, albeit with a few tweaks (slightly different cast, better dialogue and updated effects) it could be really good. As it is I feel it just falls down in a few too many areas, at least in 2017. Love the monsters though, and the scenes involving them. Is Hellraiser 2 worth seeing?

Candyman - 7/10

+ Liked the idea
+ Good performances all round
+ Some nice, gory scenes

- Ending wasn't great

This was one of those films that everyone talked about when I was at school; "Ooh have you seen Candyman, it's really scary", etc. I never really hear anyone talk about it in general film or horror film discussions, but I don't know why, as it was pretty good I thought. Maybe I'm just not seeing the discussions. Nothing amazing, but some good scenes and overall a decent watch.

Hellraiser 2 is worth a watch as it builds on what has gone before and feels like the second half of the first film rather than a new film. After that the sequels go downhill. Although one sequel explains where the puzzle box comes from so is worth a look too.

May be my favorite marvel movie, as a Hulk fan boy I loved every second. So so much to love, amazingly well filmed, lush music, epic cameos, brilliant effects, strong character arcs and actual consequences for the marvel universe. Just so so good.

Saw this tonight too, pretty much echo your own statements, really enjoyable film. My only slight gripe was that Goldblum wasn't as good as hyped, but that's being very picky.

Ruffalo's Hulk is so good, the CGI on him is now at a state where he just looks like an actor too.

Kubo and the Two Strings - can't really give it a mark until I've seen it again, but I'd say I can pretty comfortably put it in among the ten best animated films I've seen. Something about it just clicked - very melancholy.

If you liked The Witch check out It Comes at Night. Not really a horror film, but it captures the same sort of vibe. Both awesome films.

This. Boxtrolls by them is also fantastic. Feels like a British film, almost Wallace and Gromit-like despite being from an American studio. Trufax: The main reason they can keep making super expensive and hard to make stop motion films is because the company is bankrolled by the dude's father - the owner of Nike.

John Wick part 2 - 8/10

Not quite as enjoyable as the first one but a damn good daft action film nontheless.

Its a very visually stylish film too, the action sequence in the art gallery looks superb.

Holidays - 7/10

Horror anthology based around the holidays. Strikes an odd balance between horror and comedy. Some of the images are actually disturbing and if they had gone pure horror they would have a classic here. It's still worth a look, as it's creepy and weird and very different. It's also on Netflix.
