I think a sequel to A Quiet Place that attempts an origins storyline would most likely go down as one of the worst sequels of all time.

I haven't seen Scott Pilgrim since I saw it in the cinema so I should probably give it another shot

I did however watch Hot Fuzz again recently for the first time in years. Still an absolute cracker. Edgar Wright is just great

This. 100% this.

The total lack of origins backstory and explanation as to what has happened to the world is screenplay/directorial genius for this movie. It is totally unrequired and adds immensely to the vibe. Due to the financial success I’m sure Krasinski is going to be under immense pressure now to knock out a sequel/prequel....I’m hoping he resists the dollar and just leaves this as a stand-alone masterpiece.

Supposedly he wants to use the same production team to make Life on Mars, a short story he’s bought the rights to.

The project will adapt a short story by Cecil Castellucci titled We Have Always Lived on Mars that centers on a woman who is among a handful of descendants of a Martian colony long-abandoned by Earth following a cataclysm. The woman one day finds she can breathe the air on Mars, upending her world and that of her fellow colonists.

Yeah, I don’t mind if there is no sequel at all. Look what happened to The Descent and the sequel wasn’t necessary yet they made it. It was gooseberry fool.

A few films should be left as a stand-alone.

Same with the original Blair Witch Project. I know many people find it overrated and bemoan it for the start of the predominantly shoddy found footage genre but it’s one of my best movies. I frequently rewatch it and find new things in it every time. Every sequel/prequel was a cash cow mess. I was hopeful the one that was released about three years ago (The Woods) would buck the trend but that turned out poor as well.

I do still wonder what the planned sequel to Dog Soldiers would have been like though.

The Blair Witch Project is legit one of the best horror films of all time.

I think I'd agree A Quiet Place definitely doesn't need a sequel/prequel.

Liar Liar (ITVs edited to gooseberry fool version) - No rating as I'm too appalled.

Utterly strawberry floating ruined, none of the funniest bits make sense after entire lines/scenes have been badly edited out.

I don't get why they bother showing it in the afternoon if they have to butcher it so much.

They did that at one time with Dumb & Dumber, massive chunks were cut out (to the extent that the plot made no sense), and for some reason, the scene where Lloyd got robbed by the lady on the scooter was extended (not seen that in any other version).

They do the same with LOTR Fellowship on ITV as well, I don't make a habit of watching them on TV so I have no idea if they similar things for The Two Towers and Return of The King (I guess they do). Most glaring bit is the part at Amon Hen where most of the fight between Aragorn and Lurtz is edited out, as is Boromirs final moments. Really should just put it on later so they can show the film as intended.

A Quiet Place

5/5 for theatrical experience - never seen an audience with their collected breath held like during this. Maybe a 4/5 for film proper, just because thetension and fear of dipped a little post-birth and - as-ever- with increased monster exposure. And when the children were 'stranded' atop the corn tower going on about the father coming for them it felt a little odd to make a 50-metre stretch of land suddenly a two-island like scenario and a whole new quest.

But also the ending: the final shot of the mum going all gung-ho with the shotgun felt like silly badassery. If they'd had her tensely loading the shotgun or pointing it at the door whilst awaiting the approaching hoard, it would have felt more inline with the tone of the film. Instead it was a goofy tone-switch.

But these are small details and I was still thinking about the film this morning, and have already recommended it to others. It was a blast.

Cars 3 is a fun one to watch. Really has the feel of the first, with the character of it being great. Definitely one to watch.
