Cruel Summer what a miserable and depressing film.

It's a tough watch :(

6/10

I can't.

I'd rather see something original and risky like The Witch than Paranormal Activity 7 etc. Each to their own I guess.

Oh I totally agree, I've enjoyed many films that have taken risks but not been wholly successful. Sunshine, for instance is one of my favourite films. I'm just saying not everyone is like that, and certain folk (especially ones who were expecting a generic horror movie) would have found its more arty extremes to be totally unpalatable. Even I balked at the talking goat bit.

I haven't checked IMDB or anything but I imagine there are a fair few 'what the hell did I just watch' type reviews on there for it. As I said, I didn't totally hate it, just that some of it didn't really gel properly for me.

The Wailing - 7/10

Really enjoyed the first 2 hours of this but the last half hour seemed a little bit rushed and the ending was somewhat anti-climatic.

The thing about The Witch is the truly amazing performances of the kids in it. For them to sound so authentic speaking in that antiquated way was a phenomenon. I really liked the film even if it didn't deliver what I was expecting.

3's the worst of the bunch.

If you want to start with a film that's actually good then 5's the way to go.

Think the general consensus is something like

5>6>7=1>4=2>3

There's no real coherent plot throughout the series though so personally I'd just watch 5 and 6, then 7 if you enjoy those two.

The first one is surprisingly watchable still, its cheesy, badly acted and cringe inducing but there's something appealing about it.

I've only ever seen the 7th one and it made me want to punch myself in the head until I passed out and/or died.

The Neon Demon. - 2/10

It's trying so hard to be something special but has nothing going on. A pretty cast, good music and some nice shots don't make a movie. Even the talked about shocking scene was dull.

Just boring and without any merit.

Because you knew you'd reached the pinnacle of life in that moment?

Watched f8 tonight, it was all that I wanted it to be. Ridiculously, unbelievably, monumentally stupid. Terrible acting. Gaping plot holes. Millions upon millions blown on ludicrous special effects. But strawberry floating fun. 9/10

The Nice Guys - 9/10

I don’t think I have ever seen a film with Ryan Gosling in before. And this was a great start! Consistently funny with great performances from Gosling and Crowe as well as the supporting cast.

I’ve heard good things about Drive but also heard that it’s a pile of crap. I will get around to it one day.

Not heard of Crazy Stupid Love. Is it a shitty romcom?

Has anyone seen midnight meat train? It's not a porno. I thoroughly enjoyed it - though it is utter shite.

Midnight Meat Train should be utter gooseberry fool as it has Vinnie Jones and Bradley Cooper in it...... But it's actually very good fun. Vinnie doesn't speak. It's based on a Clive Barker story and it has some lovely gore in it. The ending is very good and is what holds it all together.

It's from the same Japanese director as Godzilla Final Wars, Versus and Azumi. He knows how to make a good looking film. And his slow motion gore shots in this are very special. Also it has a cameo from Ted Rami, which makes it even better.

It's a memorable, funny and dark movie, well worth a watch for those with Netflix
