I'm guessing that if you say it then the Bye Bye Man will sneak into your room at night and wank you off while you sleep.

Nah, that's already been documented!

Under the Skin

Yeah it was alright. Bit too art house.

The Void. Awesome practical effects in a film that wears its homages on its sleeve. I saw bits of the thing, the fly, Clive barker and even dead space.

As for the story though, it's just a bit too ambiguous for my tastes with zero explanation that I could see. I'll look forward to the next film by the makers though.

The 'Burbs - 7/10

I used to love this movie as a kid but it's not as good as I remember. Still it was great nostalgia and entertained me without outstaying it's welcome.

X-Men: Apocalypse - 6/10

Meh, it's the second worse main X-Men movie (it's nowhere near as bad as 3!) but was sort of ok. Nightcrawler was good and Magneto was great at the start but the villain was poorly done and the CGI was pretty crap.

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2. 8/10

Very strange movie. It suffers from some amazing trailers showing many of the money shots. It starts with a genuinely beautiful music heavy opening that shows the confidence of the director. Then it's basically a comedy with action moments, rather than an action film with comedy moments. Like say Ant Man or GOTG.

Most of it works and it is a beautiful film to look at. Kurt Russell shows why he is a legend and his story arc works well. As does Nebula and Yondo, actually everyone gets some good devlopment.

The after credit scenes were ok. One of them is interesting but the rest are just filler. I do with they would make these important again as I want a Avengers post credit scene level of excitement rather just a half hearted attempt t link it all together.

Nowhere near the level of Logan, but worth a watch.

Wish my image sig would work

Loved this film and it had an 80's Carpenter vibe to it.

[rec] - 8/10

Enjoyed this. Thought the plot was decent, and the whole documentary angle was quite good. It had some very well-executed moments, and it was consistently engrossing right until the end. The main woman was a bit annoying, and some bits were slightly ridiculous, but nothing that really detracts from it. Refreshing and highly enjoyable.

Also, someone the other day said that they hadn't seen Drive. It's on at 11pm tonight, BBC 2.

Guardians of the Galaxy vol.2 - while the story is not as strong as the first one the second is just as funny. I still don't know how they will tie in with the avengers and also I wasn't a fan of stan Lee's cameo compared to other films

8/10

PLAY | Final Fantasy VII Rebirth [92h]
WATCH | Ted Lasso S2, HiJack S1, The Apprentice S18
RACE | Westonbirt Half (March), Chew Valley 10k (June), GNR (Sept), Cardiff Half (Oct)

Drive - 9/10
Second time seeing this. Again I liked the cinematography, the soundtrack, the violence and the plot. I didn't like the relative lack of driving - would have liked to have seen a few more scenes with him actually doing his side-job - and I also don't like how unconvincing Ryan Gosling is as a tough guy/intimidating presence. He just isn't at all. I'm sure the perpetual-simpering-babyface look works for some roles (I've yet to find out which) but it definitely doesn't work here. Also, Carey Mulligan is cute as strawberry float.

Department Q - The Keeper of Lost Causes - 8/10
This is more of a feature-length TV programme than a film, but when else am I going to talk about it. Danish crime thriller type thing, with a great plot/unsolved case, and continual suspene and tension. Very well done I thought, looking forward to watching the other two in the trilogy.

Margin Call - 6/10
I watched this on a whim. It was okay…didn't dumb things down too much, and what's a stunningly boring premise on paper actually rattled along at a decent pace and didn't feel dull at all. I don't really like Kevin Spacey, but he was okay here, playing a slightly different kind of role to what I usually see him in, and the other performances were solid if not amazing. Not bad for killing a couple of hours; mildly entertaining.

her -8/10

It has an interesting concept (which is becoming increasingly likely to happen irl in the near future) and says a lot about modern society but it also left me feeling a little depressed about my own situation (forever alone).

The Invitation.

Massive cock tease,
you know something is going to happen but is strings it out for ages with it all going down in the last 20 minutes or so.

I liked the idea of the story, just that there wasn't really enough to keep the film enjoyable throughout. 6

Star Trek - Into Darkness.

No idea why it took me so long to get round to seeing this, but same with the reboot, it was several years after release until I saw it. Anyway, really enjoyed Into Darkness and I have to sadly admit that it is much better than the Star Wars films. Never thought 40 years ago one day I'd be saying Star Trek is better than Star Wars. 8
