Child's Play - 7/10

I forgot Brad Dourif was in this. The kid is kinda funny to watch. His acting isn't up to much, but it's an enjoyable movie despite that.

Also completely nails the horror movie soundtrack in certain scenes.

Geostorm - 5/10

So... It's a bit gooseberry fool. Not so bad it's good, nor a guilty pleasure like Ghost of Mars, but just crap.

The problem is the lack of actual weather, its a lot of set up and very little weather, when it does hit, it's very quick cuts and cut back.

The audience was packed but very restless during the talky bits.

The plot was pretty tired and it's all been done before with better scale, imagination and effects.

Watched a couple of horrors during night shifts as the girlfriend doesn't like them and I'm too much of a wimp you watch them in an empty house.

The Babadook - I remember Mark Kermode really enjoying this so thought I'd give it a whirl. It worked for me both as a reminder of how bad night terrors can be for child and parent and the film as a metaphor for grief. A couple of very disturbing scenes.

It Follows - loved it. Only one or two genuinely scary scenes but I thought the cinematography and soundtrack were excellent.

Baywatch (2017) - 7/10

Well, I enjoyed it and I didn’t realise it was funny as well. And those ladies. :datass:

Oh, the CGI was a bit awful though.

The Lego Ninjago Movie - or Lego, the law of diminishing returns. Its too long, nowhere near funny enough and, at times, very boring. Every scene just seems to go on that bit too long. 4/10

For context, I really liked the Lego Movie, wasn't as keen on Lego Batman (though the sheer amount of stuff happening on screen means it probably deserves a 2nd viewing).

The Snowman - 2017 - 2/10

Felt like a BBC drama, terrible in every way. Just unbelievable shite, it was like someone googled twists and threw them all in. No interesting characters, no gore, no excitement, no thrills, a character who shows he has a drink problem by saying, I have a drink problem, so boring, so pointless and just the longest slowest ride of the year. Made Geostorm look like The Dark Knight.

2 points for suprising reveal of breasts from a minor character.

Stephen King's "Thinner".

Not bad, not great either. I did laugh out loud a few times. Not sure that was what the film was going for.

The best thing about it was the foxy Gypsy girl, although she did spit a lot. :slol:

I saw Blade Runner on opening night but haven't posted a review for some reason.

Blade Runner 2019 - 9/10

+ Looked amazing
+ Sounded brilliant
+ Compelling plot
+ Good performances
+ Overall cyberpunk/technology vibe and ideas were great

- 'Bad guys' didn't do anything for me

Relieved that this lived up to its potential, and I feel it was about as good a job as they could've done. Gosling - who I'm not really a fan of - won me over and put in a great performance, as did the other characters. I didn't really like Jared Leto's character, or the woman, just felt like a generic bad guy with no real persona or 'hook'. I got what they were trying to do though in terms of the character's aims, and so that helped. I loved most of the ideas and themes, and the combination of the sountrack and visuals was stunning at times. I'm glad the pacing was allowed to be relatively slow and they took their time with the plot, rathert than rushing it and condensing into a 2 hour film. A short way into it I felt assured that they knew what they were doing and how they were going to do it, and so any trepidation disappeared and I was able to settle in and enjoy it. So pleased they did it, and that it worked so well, despite the US box office performance.

Blue Ruin - 7/10

+ Pretty engaging
+ Some tense, atmospheric moments
+ Resolved itself well

- Difficult to care too much about any of the characters

Didn't really know anything about this going into it, but was decent enough. Quite a compact and punchy crime thriller with some good moments.

Florida Project - 2017 - 7/10

Saw this as part of Odeon's Screen Unseen.

Story of a white trash mom raising her daughter in a slum near Disney Land. The child performances are amazing, I'd be surprised if the daughter doesn't get a few nominationa during awards season. It's an art house movie with a minimal plot and a lot of characters giving time to shine. William Dafoe is really good in it too. A strange movie with an ending which doesnt sit quite right as it's filmed in a different way to the rest of the movie and then just ends. It's particularly jarring as it follows an amazing performance.

Worth a watch, if you fancy something different.

It Follows: 8/10

I’ve been meaning to watch this for ages and finally got around to it. Really enjoyed it and I’ve spent ages since watching it coming up with strategies for avoiding “it”.

Thor Rangorok: 8/10 Really solid, good visuals and funnier than most comedies.

Marshal 7/10 Good film about one of Thurgood Marshall's cases he defended whilst working for the NCAAP.

Rough Night 5/10- Few laughs but quite boring overall.

The Snowman 5/10- Almost as if a child wrote it as the twists and turns are so weak, it's just a case of this happened and then this happened. Also it wss odd that half the population of Norway had strong British accents. Someone told me the book its based on isnt very good either, so god knows why they turned it into a movie.

Jigsaw - 6/10

It's just a standard SAW sequel. Gore felt toned down and not look away moments. Twists and turns were obvious and it just ended with a way set for more sequels. It's not bad, it's just a filler sequel.

Saw this yesterday - 4/5.

Very engaging and very entertaining throughout, with lots of laugh-out-loud. But for my money not as good as Veep series 4/5 stuff (which I realise was post-Ianucci anyway). Not quite as verbally inventive/offensive as peak - but still a blast.

Revenge of the Nerds - rape by deception / 10. Pretty nasty by modern standards, and you would have thought even by the standards of the 80s.

Thor 3 - 9/10

May be my favorite marvel movie, as a Hulk fan boy I loved every second. So so much to love, amazingly well filmed, lush music, epic cameos, brilliant effects, strong character arcs and actual consequences for the marvel universe. Just so so good.
