The Departed

8/10

Thoroughly enjoyed this, haven't seen it since it's cinema release I think. Strong stuff, and slightly daft in parts to be honest, but overall it's well acted, suitably dramatic and has quite the killer finish (although it could be argued the ending is a little too abrupt, maybe).

I called off his players' names as they came marching up the steps behind him....All nice guys. They'll finish last. Nice guys. Finish last.

Just watched this last night. The future bits do look terribly dated. The flying ships move so poorly it is almost like they are being moved by hand. The lazer fire also looks poor. When you see Arnie's face with the eye exposed he looks like a was work, but glasses go on and he looks back to normal.

The incidental music is terrible 80s cheese. All things considered, giving this a 7. Has not stood the rest of time, particularly when you compare this to Blade Runner.

Is this a joke post?

Terminator's brilliant - really need to watch it again. The only bits I thought that looked dated were the stop-motion animation and the model of Arnold when he's fixing himself (possibly the eye scene mentioned above). Doesn't detract from the film at all though.

Anyway, last night I watched Seraphim Falls - 6/10.

Liam Neeson and Pierce Brosnan were both good, and I liked the fact that you didn't really know the full story until near the end, but it wasn't a particularly eventful film, and the ending was crap. Great scenery though; stunning in places.

No, because it is all fact. A joke post would be if I claimed the special effects stand up well against today's films.

Yes?

The Terminator has stood the test of time. It's a classic, and the best one in the series.

Do you often contemplate the complexity of life?

It's the only one that's a good film so it's hardly an achievement

Had read this was "captivating" and "beautiful" but it seems everyone forgot to add "heart-crushingly sad" and "devastating". It is very well made - perhaps a little *too* languidly paced at times, particularly in the palace scenes, which in turn diminishes the importance of the first act - but gosh, I found it properly upsetting. The Wind Rises nearly caused me to start blubbing at the end, almost as bad as Up.

Watership Down though  never again.

Definitive Terminator opinion: the first one *has* aged, but is still great. Second one has aged better, and is still great. THERE ARE NO OTHER TERMINATOR FILMS.

Just back from watching Ant-Man. Good fun, some very cool parts, some slightly shaky parts but overall a blast.

Some of the script's attempts at humorous dialogue seemed to fall a bit flat, I thought; Paul Rudd didn't seem to quite make it work at times. His mate was ace, though.

Also, Evangeline Lily is

7/10

Ant-man

Up there with the best Marvel movies. Like Gotg its self contained but also part of something bigger. Everyone was ace in it, the action was brilliant and the references.... So very good.

Stand out moment was an amazing use of The Cure - Disintegration

Just a brilliant, funny and entertaining movie, great 2 after credit scenes and de aging CGI has never been done do well.

4/5 - A massive surprise

Wish my image sig would work
