Logan - it's good, really good. Reiterating what has already been said, we've finally got a Wolverine film that does the character justice (and one Jay would be happy with). Jackman is brilliant, Stewart is fantastic (even in his most sweary moments) and Richard E. Grant is just too brief. Loved the Shane references, it takes so much from westerns and it's great to see comic book movies using other genres (now we just need that film noire Batman movie).

Stuff I didn't like - Stephen Merchant just being himself and the adamantium bullet that he was carrying around, wonder what we might need that for. It's also a smidgen too long.

A pretentious 8? That's not a good look.

Logan 10/10 There's a new best comic-book movie in town and it doesn't even feel like a comic book movie, it's more of a modern-western. Loved it from start to finish. The violence, holy gooseberry fool! I don't know if the blood was CGI or not, but it looked real at all times. This is how you do it. I hope they push it for awards consideration come that time of year because it certainly deserves it. Jackman & Stewart especially. Even the little girl is amazing. The final scene really got me.

Ghostbusters (2016). Admittedly I was tired when watching it, but didn't find it funny, straddling the line between "rubbish" and "ok".

Pure 80's cheese, I love it.

Unfortunately both Predator and Terminator are vastly more enjoyable films. It has some classic Arnie quotes and one liners though; "Don't disturb my friend, he's dead tired..." gets me every time I see it

Ban request for scoring this 2 marks too low.

Its an EDGE style 8.

I almost never give anything 10/10.

If you're doing it on the EDGE scale you should've given it a 7.

Giving Commando a 7 would probably get me banned.

Logan or, Children of (X) Men: 9/10

A great way to end the series. I mean, it's obviously the end of the series right? They wouldn't risk lessening the impact of such a brilliant film by continuing the campy ensemble films I'm sure.

But sometimes a 7 is better than an 8.

Seven.

Better than an eight.

I called off his players' names as they came marching up the steps behind him....All nice guys. They'll finish last. Nice guys. Finish last.

Finally got myself through gone girl tonight after two failed attempts. Gets easier to watch after the first 40 mins or so when he's not making such an ass of himself.

Logan 10/10

Such a good movie. And well done to them for very well cut trailers that gave away only tiny bits of the plot.

From the opening fight to the final few minutes it's just brilliant. A film that keeps getting better and better. So many standout moments and so many bits of brutal fighting. Expertly filmed and edited, with each cut feeling practice rather than CGI.

Hugh nails it as does the rest of the cast. More moments of brilliance than the entrie x men fims combined.

My Neighbour Totoro - 8/10

Watched this with my daughter this morning and she was entranced. Didn't enjoy it as much as Ponyo by still a very charming and watchable film.

Up next - Howl's Moving Castle

Moonlight - *****

A wonderful film. The cinematography is fantastic, almost surreal in many places, and does a stunning job of pulling you in to the story, almost as an observer from within Chiron's head at times. The three periods in his life and three actors approach worked brilliantly. The switch from ii. Chiron to iii. Black was especially impressive for just how much a change in his appearance tells you about what the intervening 10 years had involved for him. In fact, the film was so full of pieces where it wasn't explicit in telling you what had happened, and allowed you to piece it together yourself. You get the feeling that another film telling the same story would have spent a long time dwelling on Juan's death, but here it's only even alluded to twice, and never mentioned directly, but you still get a very strong feeling of just how devastating it must have been for Chiron.

I still feel like there's a lot to take in from this. I probably won't go back to the cinema to see it, but I can't wait to watch it again.

Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa are all great too, although some bits probably aren't entirely suitable for younger children, I guess it depends on how old you daughter is though.

Don't let her watch Grave of the Fireflies though

She's almost 2 so most of the content of most films is beyond her, but she enjoys watching things all the same

Commando - 8/10

Not seen it for about 25 years. Very enjoyable and exceptionally 80s. So many quotable lines and a real sense of fun.

What we do in the shadows - 8/10

Very funny and unique spoof documentary.

I saw Logan today which was actually pretty great. God knows how much the studio paid the BBFC to get that classified a 15. Die Hard is an 18 and that was far less violent than this film.

I've never been particularly convinced by Hugh Jackman as Wolverine but it worked for me here. The film told a complete and satisfying story with a well-defined character arc.

Easily the best X-Men film ever made and in the top tier of comic book movies. The fact it starred comic book characters was almost incidental though and it could easily stand alone.
