I don't think I've ever watched a Hellraiser film the whole way through. I have a fleeting memory of a skinless man in a loft or something like that which I'm sure is from the original?

Might have to grab a copy of the first 2 and see what I've been missing

Yeah I've never seen a Hellraiser film either. I think mentally I put it in a box with the likes of Poltergeist and just assumed it would be old/naff. Might give it a go though.

Skinless folk are par for the course in Hellraiser, but yes the man (Frank) in the loft is from the first film.

There's no question that they're of their time, but as far as low budget, classic British horror goes the first two are superb. I certainly don't think today's horror films are quite as inventive; it's all just exorcisms, creepy dead children and shaky cam dreariness.

Can't say I remember much about any of the films after the third outing (except for the fourth movie- Bloodlines - which had a cool background story about how a toy maker originally created the box* for a aristocrat obsessed with the Occult), but avoid the third at all costs. Awful.

If that doesn't get an Oscar for Best Sound then I don't know what will.

Great film, very tense. Got a lump in my throat at the end when you can hear strains of Nimrod playing over the landing sequence of Tom Hardy's spitfire, got what a beautiful machine. I would have liked to have seen more of the action on the beach with the Stukas or some more street combat (would that have even been realistic though?) but it was very enjoyable throughout. Even Harry Styles was alright!

Dunkirk 10/10

A masterpiece and Christopher Nolan's best film.

Still thinking about Dunkirk. I've not been emotionally moved by a piece of film like that in years. So raw in its delivery.

What an experience. A full on assault of sound and vision.

Perfect cinema.

I've been talking to people at work about it today and everyone seems to be in agreement that it's an audiovisual delight. Some people were a bit confused with the story running at different speeds for the beach/boat/air strands but once I explained it seemed to click for them.

Anyway, I was going to watch Dunkirk but I've just read in the Guardian that it's a thinly veiled Brexiteer fantasy, and is also - of course - racist. So, I'm out.

I haven't read that Guardian article but to call it a brexiteer fantasty is laughable. I voted remain and I thought the film was outstanding.

As for the racism - I saw absolutely zero evidence of that. They call the Germans "Jerry" and the French "frogs" - does that count? I think not.

Ridiculous. Go and see the film you plum.

edit: and Styles is completely fine in it, if you didn't know who he was you'd think "decent little actor, that kid".

The soundtrack sounds good/impressive though, and I listened to an interview with Nolan and it sounds like a labour of love on his part. Good to that the story of Dunkirk is getting out, apparently it's not that well-known outside UK/Europe.

Do you have a link? I've Googled and can't find anything from the guardian calling the film racist.

I liked the way most of the characters just wanted away from the place, by any means necessary. There was barely any patriotic bravado in it.

I would not agree about it being movie of the year so far or Nolan's best though. If it doesn't get outstanding sound awards though, I will be surprised.

It's basically saying how there aren't enough members of the commonwealth in the movie i.e Indians. Also the French had African soldiers but they weren't apparently shown in the film. I've not seen it yet (going tomorrow or Thursday) but for some reason started reading the article. I swear I've seen the word "whitewash" more times in the last year than ever in my life.
