I can't remember what happens in Spectre except for a dodgy CGI helicopter chase or something.

Totally forgettable film.

Yep, and the story seemed disjointed, almost like bits had been cut or not made.

Yes?

Moana - 4/5

Disney animation with the Rock.

Saw a preview of this tonight thanks to a preview at Cineworld. Firstly it looks utterly amazing. May actually be the best looking animated movie yet.

Songs are great, two leads are brilliant. Animal sidekick very funny and it is about a strong female character without being preachy.

The story isn't anything too special but it all comes together with some good laughs and The Rock nailing it. One scene at sea has the heroes confronted by pirates, beautifully filmed, funny, cute and inventive, genuinely felt like a few mad max fury nods in there too.

It just works and is really enjoyable.

Only negative is it needs more pig as he was only in it briefly. Damn he is cute though.

Quite enjoyed Spectre.

I'm certainly not a Bond purist and have only ever seen the DC films. I've read a few Bond book but they're pretty far removed.

Anyway, enjoyed the film. I liked the links with the previous ones and thought Waltz was great.

Fantastic Beasts - 5/5

I've only seen a couple of the Harry Potter films but I really enjoyed this. Very well directed, moving and some stunning effects. Creature design is brilliant and the little creature who likes shiny things is adorable.

Loved the ending and the magic of it all.

Really felt like a Christmas movie which wasn't afraid to go dark when it needed to. Only criticism is one of the designs of something towards the end of the movie. Felt very generic compared to what had gone before.

The Blair Witch Project - 7/10

I'd never seen this before, but gave it a watch last night and thought it was decent. The characters were pretty annoying - particularly the girl who wouldn't shut up in the first part of the film - to the point that I didn't really care for their plight and didn't care if they lived or died. The tension ratcheted up quite nicely, with each night bringing a deeper level of fear to the characters, and it reminded me of Paranormal Activity in that respect (I know that came after The Blair Witch Project). Kind of disappointed that more didn't happen, and it would have been nice if the characters weren't annoying, but the ending was decent and there were some good moments.

Agreed. The concept behind it is fantastic, loved it, but the overall effect and usage was disappointing.

Sin City: A Dame To Kill For - 6/10

It was all right and the first one was definitely better than this, but Eva Green. :datass:

The Lobster: 8/10

Thankfully didn't outstay its welcome as its style was rather...unique. I loved it, but understand why it's currently at 2/5 on Netflix: it's really not going to be everyone's cup of tea. I love absurdist films though, and this is the most understated absurdist film I've seen in ages. Farrell is really, really good, as is Q from Bond and John C O'Reilly, but as usual Olivia Coleman stole the show for me, even though she's only in it for about 10 minutes. She really is great.

Always fun to see a fat Colin Farrell too.

Arrival - 9/10

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (IMAX 3D) - 7/10

Get the feeling I didn't like Fantastic Beasts as much as some people, it felt a little disjointed and overlong to me. Not that it was bad as such, or that it didn't have some amazing scenes, just felt a little lacking as a cohesive story.

Might have faired poorly because I went to watch it after Arrival, which was excellent. I would recommend it to anyone, I'd also recommend going in knowing as little as possible about the film.

John Wick - 9/10. God tier modern action. Struggle with the first fifteen minutes though.

Ghostbusters (2016)

Basically everything I feared from the trailers; a lowest common denominator comedy with not an ounce of wit to it, coupled with that gaudy plasticky look all Sony high budget productions have these days.

Probably didn't help that I had original Ghostbusters in the background the other day, but I kept turning my head to it because the laughs were so frequent; not once did GB 2016 make me chuckle. Not once! Even crappy comedies have gotten one or two out of me before!

If I were to praise anything, I guess the score was decent? And there were a few visually creative shots, quite liked the parade floats. Otherwise though...yeah I thought this was awful, sad to say :/

Fantastic Beasts. Enjoyable for the most part and some good ideas. The main character though, strawberry floating hell, he mumbles constantly, I found it extremely hard to hear him. And seeing as a lot of exposition dialogue seemed to come from him, I had very little idea of what was going on, especially the massive reset button Griffin/vial thing at the end.

The character Tina was absolutely adorable though. More of her

Point Break (2015) - 4/10

Took everything that made the original film such a surprisingly good movie and dutifully stripped them away. There's no building of the friendship between Bodhi and Utah, no budding relationship between Utah and Samsara and his cover is blown way too quickly. There's absolutely no emotion when he shoots one of the robbers dead in Italy because there has been no attention paid to the character dynamics in the film. The only reason this film gains any points at all is because Edgar Ramirez puts in a fantastic shift despite the crap he's given to work with, and the stunts looked good.

Nocturnal Animals

Really enjoyed this. Very stylish.

However. The opening credits sequence is one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen. It goes too far and should come with a warning.

Office Christmas Party - 2/5

Kinda funny in parts but the weakest comedy I've seen all year. Very poor turns from the A list stars. Also very predictable and not even slightly shocking in any way. A couple of smiles from me but never a laugh out loud moment.

Diplomacy
https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/diplomatie/

A film adaptation of a play with subtitles may not be the premise for everyone but this is a great film with some fantastic performances.
The story is about a German general with a terrible job to do and a Swedish diplomat who's trying to convince him not to and it's honestly fascinating and well worth a watch.

9.5/10 and free on Amazon prime video.

Gimme Danger 6/10 Interesting story on Iggy Pop and The Stooges, but a lack of worthwhile footage led to a lot of random film clips from classic films filling in the gaps. Didn't really dig that style.

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them 4/10 Didn't find the whole fantastic beasts hunt all that engaging, and the darker plot line running by its side felt like a different movie. When they came together it turned into a generic Hollywood final act explosive action sequence. Can't believe they are making another four of these, barely had enough worthwhile material to fill one.

Sully 5/10 A calming film despite being about a near disaster. Everything with the plane was fantastic, just a shame the focus was on the aftermath, which was a non story really.
