He makes a really good point about the shootout/assault on the outpost though, it really does feel dislocated from the rest of the film.

Even though it's arguably the most action intense part of the film, I find myself switching off temporarily when that part of the film is on.

:)

Nope, I love that bit too, there's some excellent quotes and one liners in there.

Manchester By The Sea 8/10 Not nearly as depressing as I imagined it would be. Casey Affleck is incredible and so is Lucas Hedges, both thoroughly deserving of their Oscar noms. I can't believe Michelle Williams was also nominated, though. She has about 5 minutes of screentime and while her performance is good, I didn't think there was anything amazing about it. Wasn't a fan of the ending either. But great overall.

Yeah what the strawberry float, that bit is amazing. That's when Jessie Ventura breaks out old painless, arnie impales that guy and says stick around, the jeez you got a big pussy joke, that bit is classic. Real talk.

There's no doubt every line is quotable and amazing, however that video just talks about the whole sequence from the way it was shot and edited and how different it is to the rest of the movie (because none of it was done by John McTiernan, it was the second unit).

Doctor Sherlock and the Philosophers Stone – 6/10

Finally caught up on the MCU by watching Doctor Strange. Nice visuals and I liked the ending but otherwise quite forgettable. And (despite the American accent) I couldn’t see him as anything but Sherlock and the whole magic thing reminded me of Harry Potter for some reason.

Sleepaway Camp - 10/10

A slasher movie classic, a summer camp slasher with a focus on the kids rather than those charged with looking after them.

Brilliant soundtrack and the ending is up there with The Vanishing, The Mist and Old boy for being so jaw dropping my awesome.

Full HD movie is up on YouTube for those who like horror and/or a slice of 80s summer magic.

Wish my image sig would work

I watched this last night too. I think by now all marvel movies (aside from Deadpool which i actually really liked) should just get a Marvel/10 rating. Because they're all the exact same. I honestly don't get why people rave about Marvel films so much. Do you have to be a comic fan to get them? Cause for me, as a non comic fan, iv'e watched a fair few of them and all of them are practically indistinguishable from the last. Over the top CGI, giant city destroying climactic battles, hero saves the day, etc etc. They're not bad, but they're not exactly amazing either. They're just...Marvel Movies. Maybe GOTG might be better than most Marvel movies too but honestly iv'e fallen asleep every time i try and watch it so i cant give it a proper rating.

Just to make you hate Marvel movies even more, Deadpool is a Fox movie based on a Marvel comic, it is not a Marvel movie. ;)

I definitely don't hate them, i just think almost every one iv'e ever seen is a 6/10 at max. Forgettable, throwaway popcorn films. Yet the way people rave about them youd swear they were all masterpieces.

They are not even masterpieces in the field of comic book movies. ;)

I like them, they are a good way to switch off for a couple of hours when you just want to be entertained. They do need to start mixing it up a bit though, they are setting into a formula that is taking away the excitement of watching superheroes kick the gooseberry fool out of bad guys/each other. I think the lack of real peril is the biggest issue, they announce the movies years before they even get made, it is hard to care about any of them when you already know they are going to be in future movies.

I think this is a valid criticism and why

They should have killed someone in Civil War. They basically chickened out and just injured War Macjine instead

There was one element of Doctor Strange that really bothered me, and that was the thought I kept having that he's the least interesting character in his own story. I understand that they have to speed through the intro to get the story caught up with the overarching Marvel world, but the byproduct of that to me was that Stephen Strange didn't appear to have to work all that hard to get to where he got. Benjamin Bratt had the long global search for someone that could help ease his pain, and then he just straight-up tells Strange to go to this place and they'll fix your gooseberry fool. He never really seemed to face much adversity compared to the other characters, and I couldn't help but feel he was undeserving of being the hero in that story.

Magnificent 7 (2016). 6/10. Nicely shot, albeit slightly dumb, Western movie. Lacked character development (an issue with a lot of ensemble movies, IMO), but did have a lot of pretty cool action.

Spot on. I realise that they didn’t want to spend an entire movie on a Cumberbatch training montage, but to explain it away as “well he has natural talent and a good memory” while his only problem was not being able to "let go" was poor.

Bratt wasn't the only interesting character that got short changed either, I thought Ejiofor's character was interesting but they barely showed any of his motivations other than saying he had demons and stuck to the rules before they suddenly turn him into the bad guy. Hopefully his backstory is fleshed out more in later movies.

Hell or High Water 9/10 Making my way through all the Oscar nominated films. This was outstanding. As great a modern Western as you'll see. Ben Foster can do no wrong. Some lovely locations but can you imagine living in one of these spots? :dread: I think I'd go mad (or turn to bank robbing like the two in the film).

Arcade Fire Live At Earls Court (The Reflektor Tapes DVD) - 9/10

I was at the night this was filmed and i forgot what a brilliant concert it was. This DVD release captures the show perfectly alot of energy from all of the band the new songs i forgot how good they work with the older material and the setlist for that tour had a great flow to it. The light show and other theatrical elements they had on certain songs captured perfectly good camera work on all songs getting key moments spot on good long shots of the stage.

For their 1st ever Live DVD/Blu-Ray release they nailed it IMO

The film helped me develop an understanding of why people voted for Trump. Not in a bad way, nor was that its specific intention, but when you see these communities, you can see why they'll vote for anyone that they think will help to bring change. What utter strawberry floating desolate shitholes. It's a disgrace that these places exist in the world's richest country.

The Prestige. 8/10. Liked it a lot. Good twist. Bale's cockney accent grated initially, but you get used to it.

I really like The Prestige. I saw it in the cinema, thought it was great, but somehow forgot almost everything about it. I watched it again on TV last year and it was like watching it for the first time. Still brilliant though.

The Purge: Anarchy - 7/10
This is the second Purge film I've seen, and I think I enjoyed this one more than the first. Like that, it was nothing special, but good fun to watch. I think the open environments of the city made for a better setting than the home invasion style of the first one. The final quarter or so was a bit of letdown, but it was decent enough.

There's so many things I didn't notice on the first, second or even third viewing.

Has to be in my top ten movies of all time.

Sausage Party - 6/10

It was alright. I was pretty baked and it didn't really hold my attention which isn't a good sign.
