I loved the first third, thought the middle third dragged a bit, and liked the last third. The ending was great, and it really annoyed me to hear they're already planning a 4th.

I thought a 4th was a given on how they've set it up. In Rise there was there was a space mission briefly mentioned and the apes have now migrated to the grand canyon area which is where Charlton Heston/Mark Walberg crash land

EDIT: Another Master & Commander would be good...there's a tonne of books to work from. Doesn't seem like the kind of film that would set the box office alight though.

Have you seen The Nice Guys? If not I recommend it and Crowe is great in it.

Hmm, no I haven't. Just looked it up, might be a good one to try and help me get over my Ryan Gosling aversion before Blade Runner as well. :slol:

I think it is the only movie I have seen Gosling in. No idea how annoying he is in other movies, but he was great in The Nice Guys.

Ryan Gosling Is Not Always Annoying Films:

- Drive
- Blue Valentine
- Lars and the Real Girl
- The Ides of March

Yeah, I was recommending some films to you, so you or Lotus could see his good side.

You're welcome. :(

Hope my HellRaiser box set has arrived in the post. (First 3 movies).

Haven't seen them in years so it'll be interesting to see if they hold up (although I'm confident the 3rd outing will still remain the weakest of the three).

War for the planet or the apes - felt it dragged on too much, very simple story and not enough action. I liked the first film, can't remember much about the 2nd and expect that in 6 months time I'll have forgotten this.

I just got back from War for the planet of the Apes 4DX and I thought it was fantastic.
I felt the story was fine with some very moving moments I'm not sure why you expected more as the Apes are only just beginning to become sentient they're hardly likely to be tactical geniuses straight away.
I really enjoyed it and give it a solid 9/10  .

Spiderman Homecoming.

Gave it a fair crack but yep, I'm completely bored of all these super hero movies now and Homecoming did nothing to change that. A case of seen it all before.

Dunkirk

The Nolan film I've liked best since The Prestige.

Gosling isn't annoying in Drive? Could have fooled me.

Saw Dunkirk in 70mm IMAX this morning, and was completely bowled over by it. Wife and I bought a large popcorn and a bottle of water, and we didn't touch either. Spellbinding. One of the best cinema experiences I've ever had.

Extremely pleased to hear this. I'm planning on an IMAX trip myself.

Citation needed.

If you pick 10 female characters from games (randomly, and across the years) chances are 7-10 of them will be overtly sexualised and not the main character. There are exceptions: Alyx, Clem from the Walking Dead, Max from Life is Strange, but it's certainly not the norm. Click-bait games don't advertise using scantily clad men, after all.

Anyway. Off topic. Do PM me though if you want to continue!

I was going to be defending games here but I think you have a point that most female characters in games are shown in a less than positive angle. Games are hardly a bastion of enlightened female characters but I still feel obliged to defend games because as escapism realism isn't always the top agenda.
This may be a really gooseberry fool analogy but to me it's like complaining that the guys in those racy romantic novels ladies like aren't realistic as they all have 6-packs and sweep women off their feet instead of being normal blokes.
If realism was a top agenda not all space marines would be bald for a start and some would have really shitty haircuts like Pat Sharp and I don't see any Pat Sharp lookalikes in the latest CoD.

Just so you know War for the planet of the Apes was amazing in 4DX so if you have a chance to see it in that then go for it as it's worth every penny.

I'm a big fan of Nolan's films but I will never understand the love for The Prestige. I have to assume it's reverence on the internet is due it being the least popular or the least mainstream.

Was the twist supposed to be completely obvious?

Booked tickets to see both Dunkirk and Baby Driver on Monday (IMAX for Dunkirk). Don't often make trips to the cinema but really excited for them.

Nope, you're obviously much, much cleverer than everyone else.

Back from Dunkirk. It's better than Interstellar, and it's better that the Batmans. It is not better than Inception or The Prestige (which is my favourite Nolan, but only because of the edge it gives me, obvs). As beautiful as it is, and it is, the standout had to be the sound. Christ, the noise those Stukas make...utterly terrifying.

A solid 8/10.
