Thought this was alright, it's no classic but was entertaining and Jennifer Lawrence does funny things to my wee willy winky.

It was a bloody abrupt ending though, I guess they didn't want to age up the pretty stars.

Why didn't they use the medical pod in turns? One does a year, the other does a year and they spend a bit of time together in between. Sure they'd be strawberry floating old when they got to the planet, but they might actually have lived to see it.

That film could have been so good with better editing and a braver story, that didn't need to tick the "Hollywood happy ending" box where they fall in love. There's a great YouTube clip somewhere on how it could be re-edited, with a change to the sequencing, to improve the film.

Agreed, I was far more interested in the two being alone on a ship for 90 years than I was in explodey fusion bollocks.

Michael Sheen was excellent as well!

Agreed, he's the best thing in it. Great actor

Okay, cool. One of my pet peeves is annoying kids (The Babadook immediately springs to mind).

The movie trope of the evil android/robot/computer almost ruined him for me though as I was waiting for him to turn evil or be revealed as the one who was trashing the ship.

I think I'd have preferred that to the actual ending

The most annoying bit for me was how convenient it was the captain woke up, gave them his access all areas keycard and then had then politely died because there's a crowd

IT- 8/10

Pretty, pretty great. IT's one of my top three King books and this was a really entertaining adaptation. The cast were all great, special mention to the creepy AF pharmacist. :dread:

Book Spoiler- I did miss the giant spider and the Ritual of Chud but they can use that in the sequel.

The strong atmosphere of dread the film gives out is very effective.

I'm still a bit miffed about Cary Fukunaga, think I would have preferred his vision but it's been getting some great reviews so I'm more optimistic than before. Also anyone else think the new design of Pennywise is a bit...gooseberry fool? I just don't find it scary at all. Can't get past the tenhead.

Still I'm looking forward to it, glad to see it's a big success, critically and financially :toot:

Zero Dark Thirty - 7/10

+ Jessica Chastain is good (haven’t really seen her in anything before)
+ Ramps up the tension/weight of everything quite well
+ Decent pacing, for the most part
+ The raid scenes were done well I thought

- Found the first third or so quite dull
- Despite the subject matter, it all felt a bit forgettable and not that special
- Some of the scenes were so dark I had to stop and adjust my TV, and even then I could barely see what was going on

Difficult to know how accurate a portrayal of events this is, but it was pretty good. Definitely got better as it went on, although the end felt a bit anti-climactic. Worth a watch at least.

Jessica  She's in the next X-Men film apparently, too. Might be the first one I actually watch in decades.

I agree, but it was Laurence Fishburne and so I let them off.

I didn't like how it went from them deciding to not use the medical pod to THE END. Other than growing a forest, what else happened? Did they have kids etc etc.

She's surely a lock for the IT sequel too assuming they don't use unknowns again.

The Circle - 6/10; entertained throughout surely a scary thought for the future with Social Media (although probably already happening as my Amazon Dot records my voice for every command :dread: ). Good cast with Emma Watson, Tom Hanks, John Boyega, Karen Gillan.

Split - 7/10; one of M Night's better films in my opinion. James McAvoy is fantastic.

IT - 2017 - IMAX - 10/10

Such a brilliant movie. Super 8, Stand by Me, Nightmare on Elm Street, and a few more vibes.

The cast of kids are all excellent, the adults are all super creepy and the bullies are dicks.

So many good bits, the famoua fist sewer scene shows that the movie is not for kids and isn't going to be for the faint of heart, the effects and filming of the slide show scene are just amazing and the individual fears are very well realised.

Just a perfect little movie with a lot of heart and no need for jump scares. Just creepy and unnerving horror.

Can't wait for the sequel and the Blu Ray release.

Also Thor 3 trailer looks stunning in IMAX.

Wish my image sig would work

Is It scary? Kermode said it was similar to Stranger Things.

It's far more hardcore than Stranger Things, scary is subjective, horror vets won't find it that scary but like I said on the last page the imagery is strawberry floated up.

It's just a great movie.

I'd say it is scary as the set ups and images are beautifully done. I felt unsettled with it at times. It's not jump scares scary, it's much more like The Ring or Dark Water with a tone of something evil awaits.

Alien Covenant

I was planning on seeing this at the cinema but was put off because of the mixed reviews.

Negatives first,

1. You could see what was coming a mile off.

2. The whole Alien birth/growth process is quick and completely inconsistent with the original films.

Neither of these spoiled my enjoyment of the film.

I'd heard things about the second point and expected it would bother me but it didn't. At least not on first viewing.

It looks great.

I'd give it 7/10. I would have been happy to have gone the cinema to see it. I don't go a lot. It's only the Star Wars films I've gone to see the last couple of years.

It's an average score not because of anything it does bad but more because it just not outstanding like the first 2.

It's arguably unnecessary. If you enjoy the Alien franchise and have any interest in how he alien came about then I think you'd like it.

It might help to put a value on this opinion by knowing I think Alien 3 is decent, directors cut good but Alien Resurrection is awful and I will never watch it again.

Green Room

This was very good. Done a lot with a relatively simple premise. Anton Yelchin was great in it. Some absolutely gruesome as strawberry float moments in it. The hand thing, I was not expecting :dread: :dread: :dread:

I enjoyed that movie, Yelchin was good but I thought Patrick Stewart stole the show.
