Black Panther 5/10

Started out like a James Bond film, and ended up with a lord of the rings battle scene. Nothing new here.

Have a read.

TL;dr (but you should have): BP is a milestone for the representation of black culture within pop culture. It is a film not just starring a predominantly black cast, but steeped in black heritage and afrofuturism. It is an incredibly important film.

I know you aren't being entirely serious but I really don't like that sort of attitude when people say things like "you aren't black/female/[insert religion here] so you wouldn't get it" when defending their own opinion.

I haven't seen Black Panther yet but when I do I'll judge it based on how much I enjoy watching it, the ethnicity of the actors in it will not factor into it.

I'm happy for you.

I was replying to someone saying the film represented nothing new. Which is wrong.

And I was being serious.

The Foreigner

First film I can remember seeing with a serious Jackie Chan and no worse for it. Pretty good action/thriller - 7.5.

I haven't seen Black Panther and I've no intention too. Am I now a racist in your eyes, Taf? :slol:

Dead Pool - 8/10

Really solid and quite funny. I know nothing about the franchise and was surprised when the x-men appeared. Probably would have watched it sooner if I had known that.

You're a funny, funny man is what you are.

Although, and I'll repeat this as many times as I have to, I was responding to someone saying Black Panther was nothing new. This clearly isn't true as demonstrated by the articles I posted which I chose at random from hundreds more that echo their point: that BP is a hugely important film for a large section of Western audiences.

Another illustration is Wonder Woman. Was it a great film? Lord no. Was it an important film. Yes, yes it was. Maybe not for you. Maybe not for me, because we see people who look like us in films all the time. But for those sections of society who are woefully under represented on-screen both these films were strawberry floating huge deals

It was obvious that when mcjihge2 stated "nothing new" he was referring to super hero movies as a whole, which, and given how many are released each year, is a completely sound statement. Of course you being the you, you had to pull out the race card and make out that mcjihge2 "didn't get it because he's white" and then based on that bombard him with links as to why he was "wrong".

Better to be funny than continually being a sanctimonious twat like yourself.

Before this turns nasty, this topic is about what each person thought about the film in the sense of whether they enjoyed it. "Nothing new" probably relates to what the person got out the film story and enjoyment wise. The impact of the film to minorities and the film industry is for a separate topic (for those who want to discuss it).

Only Yesterday - 7/10
Quite different to most of the Ghibli films I've watched so far (I'm watching them all in order) but not any worse for it - just different. I liked the overall theme and there were some nice moments. Pleasant and enjoyable.

The Witch - 5/10
I had high hopes for this, but really it didn't do much for me. Barely enough happened to keep it interesting, and while I don't mind slow-paced films, I just kept waiting for something good to happen. Then waited a bit more, then a bit more...it's okay, but bar a couple of good moments (the mother's vision/the crow, the twins in the goat shed) it's pretty forgettable.

Sounds like The Woman in Black sequel, the night scenes were so dark it was impossible to actually see what was going on.

The original TV adaptation of The Woman in Black was excellent. The more recent film not so much.

I loved this - thought that making Pierce Brosnan up to look as much like Gerry Adams as humanly possibly was a bit dodgy but it was an excellent revenge film, well made and with good performances from the two leads.

Would’ve had much more impact if it’d come out about twenty years ago though. :slol:

I just finished watching Williams.

A documentary film about the Racing team owner and former driver Frank Williams and I urge anyone with even the slightest interest in a good story or racing to watch this as it was outstanding. The film is about the family and it's just great and really worth watching.

I have no hesitation in giving it a 10/10

Amazing     .
