Along with all of the above, I also really enjoyed the 3:10 to Yuma remake and Bone Tomohawk, although that's not quite what you'd call a traditional Western :shifty:

Only overall theme taken from the book - most story beats are gone. . There’s no dread here.

Statham knows what he’s in and hams it up - but everyone else is too bad for a serious film, and too serious for a B movie.

Another film what falls into that category for me of a Modern day western is No Country For Old Men all the hallmarks and elements are there in that film as well

Mission Impossible: Fallout

I always forget how cheesy these films are. But then they wouldn't be Mission Impossible without it. Great stunts and set pieces, an all round entertaining way to spend a couple of hours, you just have to get into the theme and not take it too seriously (even though it takes itself seriously).

Such a classic film and still disturbing. Practical effects still hold up and the animal stunts towards the end are brilliant. It's on Netflix and very watchable.

The book is pretty good. Never really thought to watch the movie.

Oh my..... A full feature film documentary was made about the film due to the behind the scenes chaos and very strange finished product.

2 directors as one fired straight away, Val Kilmer, Marlon Brando, Ron Perlman, David Thewlis and the always lovely Fairuza Balk.

Also effects by Stan Winston which is always a good sign. Effects are excellent well the practical ones, cgi is terrible 90s cgi.

Story is a bit faster paced than the original and lacks the sense of unease and dread.

It's got it's moments but it's a shadow of the film it was destined to be.

Arrival - 8/10
This was good. The plot was captivating and moved along at a decent pace, but didn't feel rushed and took its time when it needed to. Amy Adams was very good and the piecing together of it all was very well done. I was expecting good things based on all the good things and hype I'd heard about, but I didn't find it to be the mind-blowing experience that a lot of people claimed it was. Still very good though.

I loved it.

Finally managed to get a copy of L.A. Confidential today (£3 in CEX). Chalky will be pleased, unless I hate it.

Thankfully I really enjoyed it 8-)

Baby Driver

I watched it last night and it's my third time. It's still great as ever.

Jumanji welcome to the jungle - probably the fifth time I've seen it now. Love this film. Such an enjoyable, easy film. The rock and Kevin Hart have such great chemistry and the roles really show off the rock's fantastic range as an actor. All four of the main cast are amazing together. Jack black and karen Gillan are excellent in their roles. Can't wait for the upcoming sequel.

Xmen Apocalyspe - 7/10

It was alright. Took awhile to get going. Sansa Stark's accent was all over the place :lol:

Atomic Blonde. Didn't really enjoy this, thought they couldn't go wrong with an 80s sound track but clearly they could. 6

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003) - ****
Russell Crowe is charming as hell in this, and Paul Bettany is great too. I'm not overly familiar with the period the film is set in, but it seemed really authentic and the audio is amazing in parts. Near the end,the Surprise's crew managing to take the Acheron when they had less men and had walked into a trap seemed like a bit of bollocks but that's really me just nitpicking.

Boogie Nights (1997) - ***
It's good, but I wanted to like it a lot more than I actually did. There are some great scenes, some of which got a laugh out of me, and the cast are pretty much all excellent (even Mark Wahlberg was bearable and I can't stand the banana split), but I also found myself wishing I was near the end a fair amount of times throughout.

Wind River (2017) - *****
Loved it. Equal parts sombre and thrilling, it felt like a modern western in a lot of ways, and I was hooked for the whole thing. Jeremy Renner usually feels like this vacuum on screen in other things I've seen him in, but he was great here. Reminded me a bit of Prisoners, which in retrospect I should've given 5 stars as well rather than the 4 I think I did.

Justice League 0/10

Absolutely appalling film. gooseberry fool effects, gooseberry fool villain, superman clearly has a CG mouth for some reason IN THE INTRO SCENE FULL SCREEN WHERE YOU'LL SEE IT MOST, batman wears sunglasses while driving through fire and being chased by flying bugs all framed by some stupid nonsensical plot about power cubes and a cartoon devil man. Utter gooseberry fool.

I heard they CGI'd his moustache instead of getting him to shave it off :lol:
