Overlord - 8/10

Well made film, looks stunning. Excellent effects, brilliant cast, good use of sound and a strong plot and pacing.

It is missing something, not sure what. Just feels like it needed something. It was rumored to be part of the Cloverfield universe, if it had been it would been what it needed to lift it up. A very solid film though, worth a watch.

Wish my image sig would work

Well there's a hardcoded HD copy of The Predator out there so just finished watching that. Apart from the over the top gooseberry fool from The Loonies I enjoyed it. That 11ft Predator was a bit of a vicious bastard I must say.

8/10 from me, wanted a bit more Predator on Predator action, if you know what I mean ;) ;)

Best Christmas movie. It's a strawberry floating fairytale.

Incredibles 2: 9/10

This was a fantastic return for the Incredibles and I was really impressed with how they managed to carry the same vibe so well even though it has been a long time since the first one. It was funny, the action sequences were well put together and exciting to watch and the whole thing just looks stunning from both a technical and artistic perspective.

Only downside was that the bad guy scared the gooseberry fool out of my son and he couldn't sleep at all last night!

It's even better when you've actually been to Bruges and explored all the nooks and crannies there.

The last hotel i stayed at there had a huge In Bruges poster framed and mounted the wall of the foyer.

It's legitimately in my top 10 favourite movies. The script is impeccable. It's funny and has emotional weight to it. The Raglan Road part makes me to my patented 'yawn to pretend you aren't going to cry' routine.

I'd love to go there!

You lot have convinced me I should have given In Bruges an 8/10 oppossed to 7. I'll still be voting it out of the eliminator before Aliens though.

Heat 8/10

That gunfight bank heist scene is awesome the noise of the gunfire is brilliant. GTA 5 is a total rip off of the movie

I enjoyed the heist, but the rest of the film was dull as.

It was a 100 minute film stretched to 180.

I think they have said that it isn't part of the Cloverfield universe.

Could have fooled me as they used the same font in the trailer's texts (apart from the main title.)

Blindspotting

10/10 best film i’ve seen in years. Creative direction, cinematography. Soundtrack and a script that just keeps on giving. An absolutely astounding film that touches on so many topics that are relevant today and done with such a creative flair that it left me in awe.

The Equaliser 2 - 7/10

Good, but not as good the first, which I'd give an 8/10.

Denzel is a badass though.

BlacKKKlansman - 8.5/10

Really enjoyed this, it was much funnier than I thought it’d be and it’s the best performance I’ve seen by Topher Grace since he got stoned in That 70s Show.

Interesting points about the Special Edition, I don't think I've watched the theatrical version of Aliens since watching the SE, that's always been my go-to version. I will have to revisit the regular version next time I need my Aliens itch to scratched.

Aye, tbf, it wasn't an instant dismissal for me. SE was my go-to version as well, but then I watched the regular version and it it seemed to make a difference. Both are still excellent, of course.

Widows 8/10

A not quite standard heist flick with some great performances and one particular scene with the camera on the bonnet of a car getting an "Oh, well done" from me.

... Yes it's one story split over two films, yes they could still have done with some cuts (the anime sequence, as nice as it is, could have been cut completely) but they work as a duology...

I mean, it's not essential to the plot (a fleshed-out aside, really) but for me it's one of the highlights of the film, man. It is such a tight and punchy vignette and the visceral, elastic animation from Production IG I reckon is more satisfying than any of the (slightly weightless) live action stuff in the film.

The ankle bursts, the headshot-tunnel, the 'Whimper' all stick in the mind for me years later, and are all in that one sequence :!:

But horses for courses. I know I'm in the minority but I actually preferred Volume 2 back in the day.

Definitely, but that's the thing with Tarantino; individually most scenes are great but he often oversteps the mark when it comes to brevity. The anime sequence doesn't move the film forward, nor does it provide any plot essential to the over arching story. It's purely an indulgence. A great one, but still.
