Big Hero 6

Watched it with my young niece and nephew and they were distracting me a bit throughout but I feel like I didn't miss too much. It occasionally made me laugh, had its moments and emotional moments. Good plot twist. Otherwise, it mostly felt like stuff I'd seen before. I'd give it a solid 7.5.

Spiderman Into the Spiderverse - 10

strawberry floating brilliant. The best Spider-Man film ever by a country mile and almost certainly the best superhero film ever full stop.

Fantastic script, a cast of great characters, laugh out loud comedy, breathless action and some genuine emotion. The core message of the film is expertly presented and lands perfectly when it really needs to. Genuinely fantastic, go and see it.

I can’t get over how good it was, Lightning in a bottle.

Better Watch Out

12 year old fuckwit tries to stage a slasher movie style home invasion in an attempt to fire into his baby sitter. At Christmas.

Shite/10

I was hyped for Better Watch Out, it is pretty clever but if they had gone with home alone with blood it would have been so much better. A hugely wasted opportunity for a Christmas classic.

Agree with most of what was said above. I posted this in the Movie Discussion thread:

Saw Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse the other day and have to say that despite the universal praise it's been receiving I left pretty surprised at just how good it was. The visual style is very cool (reminded me of the Telltale games) and the whole thing is really well done and presented. I'd anticipated some cool action sequences and humour, but it had more than that and told a really interesting origin story with some well rounded and realised characters. All in all I loved it and really hope it enjoys the commercial success it deserves in order to get a sequel, as it's quite possibly the best Spiderman movie I've seen.

If I had to score it, I'd probably give it a 9

The House With A Clock In It's Walls - strawberry floating shite. Only watched it because the missus wanted to watch it when it first came out in cinemas but it was a straight up "Nah strawberry float that gooseberry fool m8" so glad I didn't pay to watch it, fell asleep throughout it, it was THAT GOOD.

2/10...Million.

Escape From New York (4K) Another classic Carpenter/Russell movie I love and it looks great in 4K, oh an Snake “The name’s Plissken.” Plissken  10/10 Dukes.

Yeah, I think if they'd had more like the paint can bit and made the kid less of a wee prick, it might have worked. But they didn't. A wasted opportunity as you say.

Ralph Breaks the Internet - 7.5/10

Really enjoyed this. At least as good as the first one. Some nice and funny references as well.

Watching that tomorrow.

Saw the shape of water a few days back. Was an odd film, good but I wouldn't watch it again. It was also a stealth reboot of Splash, right down to the ending.

Ghostbusters (2016)

People were way too critical but at the same time I don't want to indulge it in compliments. Doesn't touch the originals and it tries to be funny, but the visuals popped and ghosts got busted so... 5.8/10 :shifty:

Spiderman into the spider verse - what the hell was that gooseberry fool all about. It was amazing out of ten that's what. Possibly the best Spiderman film ever.

Bird Box.

It is on Netflix and I enjoyed it though. It was similar to A Quiet Place but it’s about sight.

The Place Beyond the Pines (2012) - *****
Loved it. Chucked it on with basically no expectations and was glued from beginning to end. It's always nice when a film genuinely surprises you with how its events play out or just its overall quality of craft, and this accomplished both. Highly recommended.

Moonlight (2016) - *****
Bit hard to articulate my feelings about this. You should just watch it.

The Girl Next Door (2004) - **
I think I laughed at one moment, it was strange how alien the film felt considering it's only from 2004. The two stars are pretty much down to Timothy Olyphant and Elisha Cuthbert.

Jackie Brown (1997) - ****
Death Proof is the only Tarantino film I haven't seen now, but this probably takes a spot in the top three at the moment. I can see it possibly being a better rewatch than I find a lot of his other work, although it's no Django.

Falling Down (1993) - ***
It was worth watching, I imagine the social commentary seemed a lot more biting at the time of its release. I didn't even need to look it up afterwards to realise it's almost definitely one of those Fight Club style films that is completely misinterpreted by plebs with a victim mentality, or viewed as some kind of "redpill" rite of passage.

Hell or High Water (2016) - ****
Very good modern western. Jeff Bridges was bloody excellent and even Chris Pine, who I was expecting to find difficult to totally buy in a role like this, was decent.

Don't bother, it's basically a test of endurance as to how long you can put up with the endless inane chat.
