Event Horizon 8/10
Ive still no idea how Paul Anderson managed to direct an honest to god great movie, but he managed it, proving the old adage "even a stopped clock shows the right time twice a day" is very true. Yeah some aspects of it are cheesy, the OTT funky black guy, the shitty, SHITTY CGI that looked bad even back in 1997, but god damn i love this film. Sam Neill is amazingly OTT (in a good way), Lawrence Fishbburne is great, and its got some genuinely creepy moments and messed up imagery. In a perfect world, Event Horizon with all the cut content restored and directed by a more competent horror director would be the best horror movie of all time.

No Country for Old Men 10/10
Pretty much my favourite film of all time right here. I strawberry floating adore this film. Perfection. Also, i only just noticed for the first time ever that the film has no music in it at all.

John Wick 2 8/10
Not as good as the original, it gets a bit silly with the entire city of New York being undercover hitmen, but its still got amazing action and Keanu is a legend.

The Matrix 10/10
Still as good as when it came out. Another classic from Keanu.

300 7/10
Another film thats cheesy as all hell but god damn if it isnt entertaining as gooseberry fool.

Also can i just take a second to complain that even tho every one of these movies is old as hell (aside from Wick 2), not ONE of them was on either Netflix, or Amazon Prime Video. I had to torrent all of them. I dont know why i even pay for Netflix if they cant show these old ass movies over here, cause i strawberry floating know theyre on netflix US

It pisses me off too, there's absolutely no reason why films that old aren't available on most streaming services.

Die Hard is a good example, its not on Netflix and Amazon expects you to pay extra for it as it isn't included in Prime - banana splits.

Brilliant cameo at the start. 3 is a bit different but has some amazing effects. After that it gets messy, rave from the grave and the other one are just poor zombie films and not in the same spirit. 2 also has one hell of a movie poster as did part 1.

3 also has a very amazing leading lady that could go toe to toe with Trash from the first film.

After seeing ROTLD it's hard to take the endings of The Crazies Remake and Alien Vs Predator 2 seriously as it's literally the very same ending.

Scouts guide to the zombie apocalypse has a similar vibe to return of the living dead, as does Cooties.

ROTLD 3 doesn't get nearly enough credit. It has some fantastic ideas throughout. It's a wonderfully gory film as well.

Die Hard was on UK Netflix last year, just before Christmas. Then it got removed and went on Prime for a short time then disappeared.

Murder On The Orient Express

Simply a story which doesn't work as a film. The twists come far to thick and fast to have any kind of impact and not enough time is spent on each character to ascertain their motives. Was fun playing spot the celebrity for a bit though.

Ghost in the Shell.

Had a very similar experience to Blade Runner/2049 (a blend of the two really) and it's a solid, if a bit unremarkable action film set in, what is to my eyes, a very typical dystopian future. Wasn't entirely sold on this one to be honest.

Hunter Killer - 7/10

Very enjoyable if unremarkable film. Effects are as ropey as London has Fallen. Characters are pretty flat but it moves along at a good pace.

Also the outcome final tense will they live or die moment is ruined by being in the bloody trailer.

Enjoyable but forgettable.

I don't know why they'd ever attempt to make a new submarine film after Crimson Tide.

It'll probably sink at the box office.

Halloween 9/10
Was just so good except for one scene where it tried to be funny and didn't make sense.
Really enjoyed it and even though it's been many years since I first watched the Halloween films as a kid....this felt just as intense and just as scary even in 2018!

That was awesome! Its an Indonesian martial arts flick in the vein of The Raid, with a lower budget and a bit short on story, but strawberry float me if it isn't the most ridiculously, stupidly, gorily violent film ive seen in ages. Just turn your brain off and enjoy the fight scenes

I've gotten about an hour into this and was thoroughly enjoying it. Much like the 2nd Raid film it insists on interrupting the fights with nonsense plot and badly framed narrative hooks but the fights really are a wonder to behold.

I'll try and finish it off tomorrow and whack an arbitrary rating on it.

Black Panther - can't think of many Marvel films I've enjoyed less. Not a superhero I've been particularly interested in but unlike Dr Strange and Ant-Man (which I also had no interest in), this didn't leave me thinking "actually, that was quite good" once I'd finished watching.

An "ok" 6.5.

First Man 5/10

I really wanted to love this, but gosling is as gooseberry fool as ever - blank facial expressions and a generally boring performance.

The training and space bits were brilliantly done, really convincing and it was hard to tell if you were watching actual footage or stuff for the film. It really captured the violence of being in a capsule for a launch too (well what I'd imagine the violence would be).

Apollo 13 remains the king of this type of film by a long way.

Yeah I kinda tuned out the story sections  But just a stupidly enjoyable action film all the same

Iko Uwais and Joe Taslim, Gareth Evans involvement, definitely getting watched then.

First Man 7/10- Despite the two hour plus run time I was never bored, it was interesting, but it shouldn't really feature in any Oscar discussion. One of the reviews I read (maybe the Guardian) said Claire Foy, stole the show. I actually thought she had very little to do in this.

Insidious Chapter 3.

Twas on TV and I was having trouble sleeping so even though I thought the first was gooseberry fool I decided to watch it. Cheap jump scares throughout, with a laughable and predictable story. Boring film.

Helped me get to sleep though.

I went to see this today and had the same reaction although I hadn't seen the trailer so the ending wasn't spoiled for me.

7/10 is a good shout for a score :D . Not great but not terrible.

John Carpenter's The Thing 9/10- That was intense. Can't believe it was slandered on release. Is the prequel any good?
