Last film you watched and your rating

I actually quite like Drive, my first viewing was when the BBC screened a re-scored version and it introduced me to the brilliance of Chvrches.

Is Drive more polarising than the Last Jedi?

I still haven't watched the rescored version, but a new soundtrack wouldn't make it more interesting.

I have watched neither Drive nor Last Jedi but as a member of the internet generation I feel this shouldn't disqualify me from having very strong opinions on both of these movies.

Last Jedi is a terrible film about space wizards for children. Everyone involved in it should be ashamed and made to come on TV and apologise for what they have done.

Drive is great because it has Ryan Gosling in and he did that excellent "Papyrus" bit for SNL so it must be Oscar worthy levels of genius.

Mother. This just descended into complete chaotic madness, I'm still not sure what it was about but I loved it. Nothing predictable about it. I have a theory about it but what other theories did you guys have on it ?

I then watched John wick 2,what's not to like.

I hate Drive, for the simple reason, I watched the opening before I had to dash off, and thought my god that was awesome, so set aside some time to watch the whole film.

Then the rest of the film happened, and I felt cheated

Very close to being utter gooseberry fool, saved only by Alden Ehrenreich's convincing portrayal of a young Dennis Quaid.

Mary and the Witch's Flower - 8/10

Lovely anime story from folks formerly of Studio Ghibli.

Hot Fuzz - 9/10

Haven't seen it in years (i don't watch ITV2 where they show it almost weekly), and it's just as good as i remember, it also has a creepy level of accuracy of how things are around here in real life (they filmed it in Wells just 20 miles from here).

I love the scene with the farmer who is supposed to be unintelligible that Nick Frost has to translate. Because I pretty much understood everything he said. :lol:

“You want to be a big cop in a small town? strawberry float off up the model village!”

My town had a runaway swan not too long ago either.

TLJ's my favourite Star Wars film ever. Not that I particularly loved the rest.

Assassin’s Creed - 3/10. Christ this was a load of gooseberry fool this evening. It reminded me of the first game in that it focused too much on the present (thoroughly boring) and not enough on the past (all the exciting stuff). First film I’ve watched in many a year that I was clock watching.

Hate how they kept taking you out of the past all the time and switching to the modern day and the stupid embellished anus contraption.

Was watching an acquired 1080P copy last night and I didn't even get to finish it. Utter wank that bored me shitless. I'm sure I'll get round to watching the rest of it when I can be arsed.

Bit of a difficult one to rate this, the animation was gorgeous and the wartime setting made for a very interesting story, but there was some particularly tragic incidents which left me feeling rather depressed afterwards.

Reminded me a little of Grave of the Fireflies.

The Predator - 2018 - 3/10

Oh my.

So ......yeah it's a mess.

The good,

Cast are all well cast and some good dialogue. Not amazing but good.

Practical effects on original predator are good.

One of the scientists is someone who fans of the series will be happy with. Lovely little treat for series fans.

Oliva Munn is really good as always.

The bad.

CGI Predator, 11 foot tall and CGI. Too big, looks goofy and silly. No threat, no danger. Think Ang Lee's HULK for an awkward comparison.

So much poor cgi and CGI blood. One scene towards the end with a ship shield looks like it was done on an Amiga 500.

What starts off as a good portrayal of autism soon becomes Hollywood autism which is everyone with autism is a genius.

Someone with Tourettes is the comedy because disability is funny apparently.

The only major female character has to strip off at one point because Hollywood.

Predator dog looks worse than in Predators.

Changing the Predators motivation from big game Hunter to..... Well let's just say it's gooseberry fool.

My God the ending, what could have saved it would have been the original script ending from Predators. What we get is terrible, it's so terrible. Just my God it's bad. It's as bad as the ending of Independence Day 2. Infact I think that inspired it.

So a gooseberry fool film really, no interesting stuff just a cgi gooseberry fool show with a ton of plot holes, a Predator who is really poor at being a predator and one of the most laughable endings of all time.

AVP 2 had a better representation of the Predator. At least he was brutal.

Watched some Netflix films

Fantastic four silver surfer - 3/10. Jessica Alba looks good.
Jack ryan - the one with chris pine(?) and kiera knightly. - 7/10 pretty good. good ending
Never stop never stopping 8/10 a good few funny lines, laughed more than i thought i would. Not as good as pitch perfect though.

Solo 5/10

What a mess of a film.

First off, Ehrenreich wasn't as bad as the trailers made him out to be, and Glover wasn't as good. They were both fine. Secondly, Woody Harrelson was just...there. A phoned in performance if ever I saw one.

The plot was all over the place. I liked the idea this being the Star Wars heist film to Rogue One's Star Wars war film but it really wasn't. It was part heist film, part origin film and part Star Wars film, where none of those parts ever existed in conjunction with the others. There was almost a hard cut every third of the film from one to another and it just didn't work. At all.

My biggest problem though was the dialogue and characterisation. It was, almost to a fault, dreadful.

I hated the Reno character as soon as he took off his mask, and was actually overjoyed when he bought it, so awful was his lol bantz dialogue. Unfortunately it was only a taste of things to come. Everything felt off somehow like I was being reminded I was watching a film rather than being allowed to sink into the experience. Even Han himself was largely an empty vessel for us to pour our previous experience of the character in to. The worst though was Emilia Clarke's Qi'ra. She was the black hole at the heart of this swirling mess, a complete non-entity who seemingly shifted personality from scene to scene. Perhaps a better actor could have imbued her with some nuance or guile (the character was apparently inspired by Eva Green's turn as Vesper Lynd), but Clarke played her as 4 or 5 difference women who never coalesced into anything approaching a whole. She ruined the majority of the film.

Saying that, the design work was stunning. Everything from Corellia, to the speeders, to the Marauder masks* to the Star Destroyer looming out of the maelstrom...it was a gorgeous looking film. One with incredibly pedestrian direction (it was Ron Howard after all) but a film I would gladly buy the artbook for.

Overall it was a disappointment however, and the worst Star Wars film since Attack of the Clones.

*Surely designed with Destiny's The Fallen in mind.

Calibre

Good, tense film set in Scotland. Confirms my expectations of what it's like to go to a pub in Scotland. A very solid 7/10, possibly more like 8/10.

Got Moonraker on ITV4 now. It is so utterly, utterly awful but also amazing :lol:

Oh and also Solo is a better film than The Last Jedi.
