Dracula The Prince of Darkness (1966)

Love a bit of Hammer Horror and this is a classic. Lee's Dracula is as menacing as ever.

Spider-Man Homecoming

I don’t know what to think of this and I was disappointed. Perhaps it was because I have just finished Spider-Man on PS4. Dare I say, I preferred the game’s story than the film. :shifty:

Batman (1989)

Far better than I remember. Certainly better than anything to come out of the current DCEU.

Daddy's Home 2

Like the first, funny and quite sweet. Save for Christmas though.

The Boss Baby

5/10

Nothing special, some nice animation and the story improved after the half way mark, but ultimately forgettable stuff.

Pixels

6/10

Nowhere near as bad as i remembered, in fact it was actually quite good fun for a film with such a silly premise.

Crazy Rich Asians - 8/10

Lovely film which makes Singapore look stunning. Cast are all fantastic and music choices are all covers of Western hits. Really well made and we'll acted. More of a romantic drama than a comedy but a very good one.

Wreck it Walph 7/10- Watched this because I saw the trailer for Wreck it Walph 2 in the cinema and it looked decent. Toy Story but computer games. Enjoyable enough but nothing particuarly special. Will probably see the 2nd one in the cinema.

Slowly catching up on the new Pixar/Disney Animation films. Will probably be Inside Out next weekend.

Blade Runner 2049

Overall, rather disappointing. Overly long, the story was "ok" and the soundtrack tried to replicate the original, but just didn't have the impact. I guess you could say that Blade Runner 2049 is to Blade Runner what replicants are to humans, technically superior but lacking something.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind

7/10

First time i've actually seen it, and although the effects have obviously aged, it's still an enjoyable story (though a little slow at times).

A Simple Favor - 8/10

Enjoyable movie which is hard to review without spoiling it. Excellent cast and plot. Kept me interested all the way through. Well worth a watch.

Captain America: Civil War - 8
Dr Strange - 7
Spider-Man: Homecoming - 7
Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 - 7.5

All in IMAX, surprised how much I enjoyed Civil War. Its still got issues in that it's not really Civil War, but it was the best of the bunch overall I think.

Antman and the Wasp it was not terrible, but it was terribly disappointing

Antman was my one of my favourite MCU films, and this seems to try and copy everything from the first, but without any heart or character. There is nothing bad about the film, it is just a pale imitation.

I am so, so interested in contemporary Russian propaganda strategies. I’d love to talk to that author about some academic theories on Russian trolling in popular culture.

They seem to be so far ahead of any western efforts it's terrifying.

Venom - 6/10

So...

It's basically a 90s super hero movie with A crap CGI battle at the end, sequel baiting post credit sequence and far too long on set up. Oh and everything is in the trailers. Everything. Not some things or most things, but everything. Think Ant Man and the Wasp level of spoilers.

Film was ok. Takes a while to get going. Venom is an interesting character as is the bad guy. Action and CGI is ok. But very family friendly. At the end it's one huge cgi mess.

It's just a very very average film, cinema was full but it was a very quiet audience.

Think.... Darkman (but gooseberry fool) meets The Phantom, meets Terminator Genysis meets Spawn.

Slights spoilers for post credit sequence...... I was trying to place who a character reminded me of .... then it hit me....

The prop comedian Carrot Top after he started working out and now looks like a chucky doll on roids. strawberry floating terrifying.
