Aliens 8/10.

Still a good film. Finally got the missus into it so that's good. Special effects have not aged well. Some you can tell its a set with a green screen.

You're incredibly gay for Gosling, so this doesn't surprise me.

Terminator Salvation - 7/10

It's a far better film than T3 but doesn't always feel like a proper Terminator film. there's a lot of nice references to the previous films and it's great to finally have a post 'Judgement Day' Terminator film.

The ending is utterly ridiculous though: So, they have very few medical supplies, are in a field hospital and have no cardiovascular surgeon yet are able to successfully perform a heart transplant. and of course the new heart just happens to be a perfect match. :fp:

Have you seen many Gosling films out of interest? Lars and the Real Girl and Half Nelson are the standouts I've seen of his performances and of course Drive but doesn't really show off a lot of range in acting ability.

I thought he did great in Blue Valentine, but it was depressing though!

I want to see The Place Beyond the Pines (which I heard it's a good film) and Only God Forgives when it comes out.

He's good in Place Beyond the Pines but I thought the movie was a total let-down.

Blue Valentine is a cracking film. I do think that Gosling is more limited in range then it once appeared and I agreed with others that said that Gangster Squad was a load of toss.

Side note: I'd love to see an Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling sex tape (yes I know they aren't a couple). In both GS and Crazy Stupid Love they have great chemistry. That was the thought I came away from with from both of those films.

Pretty sure there are no cgi or green screen shots. There are painted effects (nuke blast, landscapes) and model shots but it's mostly practical effects and set work. I also think it has aged incredibly well considering its nearly 27 years old.

500 Days of Summer 9/10

God I love this film. Skirts the line between genuinely unique and dangerously kooky perfectly with only one misstep (the first scene in Ikea). Lovely stuff. Fantastic soundtrack too.

This is why I made the comparison to Gordon-Levitt. Both come from really strong indie backgrounds but now that they've hit the mainstream the quality of their roles is questionable. Gosling less so as he still has stuff like Only God Forgives in the pipeline and I've heard good things about The Place Beyond The Pines, when both his and Gordon-Levitt's directorial debuts hit I'll see if I'll commit to this idea.

Before Midnight 10/10

Like seeing old friends for the first time in 10 years. It was an absolute joy to be in Jesse and Celine's presence again. Their "bullshitting" as they call it is as fresh and funny as ever, with many profundities thrown in there for good measure.

A joyous experience.

Watch The Believer and Lars and the Real Girl in the same night?

Interestingly I thought Lars (and Half Nelson) were dull as strawberry float upon first viewing. Improved on the second, but not to the level where I'd want to watch them again.

The Sitter.

Well that was better than I thought it would be, if a bit cliched. I did laugh at some bits of it.

5/10

Even better than I was anticipating. So damn good. Even though I knew what happened at the end, I kind of forgot and it was still surprising. And although I've not thought about it too much, it seems like very thought out time travel. Can't really come up with any holes in it.

When Joe is talking to Cid in the kitchen at night, Cid has a noticeable gap in one of his front teeth. In the next scene Cid is talking to his Mother and still has a very wobbly baby tooth where the gap was previously.

0/10.

Spoiler Edit:

I loved Looper.
