Armageddon - Entertaining without ever threatening to be great. 7/10.

Off for the night to watch The Usual Suspects, since I've not watched it yet this year.

It's more interesting and alien than Aliens but the sequel is such a better, more rounded film, and there's something haphazard with the way the first was made. Things like using showers for the thrusters at the end and positioning the camera so it gets soaked is just strange. The cut from prosthetic Ash to Ian Holm was equally as bizarre.

Just didn't notice them before. Maybe I was in a mood.

Watched three films today(aside from my traditional viewing of Die Hard late Christmas Eve/early Christmas Day - 10/10):

It's A Wonderful Life - 9.5/10. First viewing. Excellent, excellent film. Unrelentingly depressing for most of the time and then BOOM, the last half an hour is amazing. Clarence totally owns that dude's depression. Can't quite justify a 10 but I loved it.

Jackie Brown - 8/10. Samuel L. mummy strawberry floating Jackson makes it, of course. I thought Pam Grier and Michael Keaton were awesome as well. Great soundtrack.

Ratatouille - 9.5/10. Same as It's A Wonderful Life. I went into this film with reasonably low expectations as I wasn't sure of the premise. I mean, a rat chef? Really? But then, I forgot it was a Pixar film and they've yet to disappoint me(I've never seen Cars). I dunno if it's because I started drinking just before Christmas dinner and never really stopped, but I had a stupid grin on my face during most of it. Incredible scenes.

Do you need to have watched Alien in order to appreciate Aliens?

I once watched a bit of Alien and found myself bored to strawberry float. I'm not saying that I think it's a bad film, I just don't see the appeal of horror films at all. :?

Odd, since immersion has never been a problem for me with other genres.

Scrooged - 8/10

One of my favorite Christmas movies and a brilliant showcase for Murray.

Kill List - Very disappointing. I'd heard lots of good things about the film but had no idea what it was about. A lot of it makes no sense, but I missed some of the dialogue due to the volme levels being messd up. I'd put the volume so that I can hear the chracters when they talk, but then they start screaming at each other really loud and I have to turn it down so I don't wake up the whole house. Then they start whispering and I can't hear a thing they're saying. This goes on for the whole film.

The Wild Bunch - 8/10

The West in its final death throes. Some amazing set pieces, especially the blowing up of the bridge.

Watched Die Hard in HD last night (10/10 obviously) and this is the first time in 20 years that I've noticed the huge scar on Bruce Willis' shoulder. :o How the strawberry float did I miss that all this time?

Thor

I bloody loved it. Everything was so awesome, just immense fun. The humour  Loki was brill  And the Hawkeye cameo

Loved too how when Thor came to earth, his voice suddenly sounded ridiculous, on account of the mortals talking normally.

Young Guns II

Watched after consuming several bourbon whiskies. That soundtrack.

11/10, the extra point is for Emilio Estevez's amazing old man voiceover.

Watching The Dark Knight again.

The action is brilliant but the Joker's ludicrous foresight really does hold it back imo

Hugo - Tonight, Tonight/10

Actually another 9.5/10. Absolutely amazing. It's like Martin Scorsese's ode to early cinema, as seen through the eyes of a child.
