By the halfway point if anyone’s still in there’s still one team they haven’t used. A team can’t play against themselves so you have 38 matches for 20 teams in a season. Though, technically because they don’t have a choice in who they pick at that point, I guess the game is already over and you’re just waiting to see the result, so you could just start round 2 after game 19. And have it overlap with game 20 of round 1.

In the past it was over much quicker than that. All it takes is one big team that everyone chooses to muck up and lose and suddenly loads are out.

For example the 6th, 7th, and 8th version of this started 22nd Dec 2011, 4th Jan 2012 and 4th March 2012 respectively. So the whole game potentially can be over rather quickly.
