Hazbin Hotel (on Prime Video)

Wonderfully well animated, acted and sung R-rated horror musical. Honestly one of the best shows I've seen in a while, certainly the best cartoon, there's not many episodes but it's got its hooks in me deep.

8/10 so far. Need more.

Succession (Season 4) - 9/10
Wasn't quite sold on the Shiv turn in the finale, but it's been an amazing show that's been consistently great throughout. Def one of the best tv shows ever! Will miss the Disgusting Brothers

Slow Horses Season 2 - 7/10. I enjoyed this, but not as good as the first.

Only Murders in the Building S3 8/10 Not as strong as the earlier seasons but enjoyable to spend time with the characters non the less. It also has some very well done songs. Steve Martin's full perforamce of Pitwick Tripletsis worth a watch on its own

Frasier [2023] - absolute rubbish, with a few funny lines here and there. The best parts were when characters from the previous iteration show up and that says it all.

On other note, Netflix's Harlan Corben stuff gets dull and fast. Once you've seen two, you see how he operates. How he is sfill a best seller author, I'll never know. Don't know how full on Harlan is when it comes to the series though. I've only read his books with the sports agent/PI Detective with a psychopath for a best friend.

Severence - 8/10 - really enjoyed this. It did feel a bit 'Lost' at times with some of the ideas, but if they can keep everything contained and not go to out there, I think Season 2 could be excellent too.

I watched it for the first time recently. Pete is an absolute banana split.

But, yeah, fantastic character and performance.

Candy (2022 | Disney+)

The story was pretty shocking; more so when you realise it's based upon an actual event. A woman kills the wife of a man that she's had an affair with, using an axe that she swung forty times and claimed that it was self-defence.

The real event took place in America in 1979/1980. Rather unusually, another TV series based on the same event was aired by HBO Max just one year after this show, in 2023, called Love & Death.

The lead actress, Jessica Biel, was terrific as Candy. The set/scenery was superb, too, and it really captured that late 70s look and feel. Was five episodes too much? Possibly, although I was eager to see more throughout.

Having subsequently looked into the real event, I feel bad that a TV entertainment series about a horrific scenario can be made a relatively short time after it took place. It doesn't feel "right". But my over-riding feeling is one of disbelief at the trial verdict.

[7]... purely for the acting and presentation... but the impact of knowing it is a real event holds far greater weight.

Avatar: The Last Airbender (2024) 8/10

Is it as good as the original? Of course not. That’s one of the greatest TV series of all time (if not the greatest. Can’t watch The Sopranos with your kids)

But it looks the part, the SFX are no worse than 00’s fantasy movies, the casting is on point and the fight scenes are great. It diverges into its own thing to condense the story which is a good idea; I don’t want a shot for shot remake.

I can see why it’s had mixed reviews but a lot of now-adult fans need to remember at heart this is still a kids show.

That's pretty much my exact thoughts. The cartoon is better, but this doesn't deserve some of the hate I've seen. It's decent, other than some dodgy looking CGI.

Assuming they keep making these, they are going to have to hurry up. The kid playing Aang looks the part at the moment, but in a couple of years he's going to be old enough to get served in a pub.

The Dropout (2022 | Disney+)

Based on a true story of a young woman creating a health/tech-focused start-up company that was built upon lies. It's amazing how notable people became investors and employees before things imploded. An eye-opening drama that symbolises the fascination and, often, a shift from reality, associated with tech start-ups. [7]

Criminal Record

British crime drama on Apple TV which is about as mediocre a series as it's possible to be. Passable entertainment if you like this kind of thing, an easy miss for anyone else.
