24 : Legacy

What wrong here?. I think the makers need to be kicked in the nuts. Repeatedly. To remind them what made 24 so great (apart from some silly subplots like The cougar vs Kim, pipe down you lot :x ).

You know your life has hit rock bottom when they turn one of your favourite tv shows into a show for the ponces who like Twilight films.

Teri Bauer would be having another brain fart if she saw this. Speaking of the Bauer’s, I can’t remember this guys name, he’s got the bark but doesn’t have Jacks bite.

They’ve killed this show, was reading the other night that they’ve cancelled a second season of Legacy :toot:
Which is a good thing because they can get Kiefer back as Designated Survivor has been cancelled.

So get to it Fox.

The Good Place. 6.5 out of 10.
Great first season. Amazing twist. Then the second season started and it went downhill. I hate
forced redemption. It came across as fake.

Wild Wild County
Thanks to Taf for bringing this to my attention. Constantly intriguing, thought provoking and compelling. I'm not sure if I felt sympathy for anyone in the end as everyone was doing bad things, The US government throwing their weight around after the arrest sticks in mind as being particularly horrible. Funny that one of the issues was constitutional with the lack of separation between religion and government with the state of the US at the moment with Christianity.

One of the most remarkable shows I've seen in a long time. It does something almost impossible, reconciling all the military, cultural, social and geo-political aspects of the whole Vietnam quagmire into a programme that not only gives the viewer a better understand of the whole sorry affair, but creates and maintains an empathy with almost every opposing viewpoint.

Absolutely no hesitation in calling it a work of genius. A must watch.

I started this last night and watched the first episode. Brilliant stuff already. It's a war that I really know not a lot about at all, despite being fascinated by it at the same time, so the first episode was very interesting. I knew about colonial France etc, but not what really led to the war. Looking forward to the next episode.

Also, I've been re-watching Boardwalk Empire for the first time in what...8 years? Just finished season 1 and it really is such a brilliant show. From the acting, the direction, the sets, it's just great. I'd say it's high up there in my all time favourite TV shows. Agent Van Alden is such a hilariously mad character  . Played to perfection. 9/10

In what way? shorter/fewer episodes?

They're both 10 episodes with the BBC versions 55 mins long and the Netflix versions are 30m - 1hr longer.

Think you missed a "1" there. Just for clarity

BBC4 eps: 55mins
Netflix eps: 1hr30

I think he means they're thirty minutes to an hour longer.

I'm also currently watching the Vietnam War doc on Netflix. It's great stuff. Went to Hanoi last year and saw some of the places like the 'Hanoi Hilton' where they kept the POW. Would have loved to see Ho Chi Minh as well.

Such a good mix of what the actual battles were like (from both sides), as well as the atmosphere and culture changes in both America and Vietnam.

Does anyone know when we can expect The Expanse Series 3 or 12 Monkeys series 4 in the UK?

I really like both shows but both are terribly advertised here.

Bless Sam Worthington's little socks he does try. It's still a fascination of mine how this guy, Plainy McNoface himself, was the go-to guy for Hollywood a while back.

Heere he's completely outshone by Paul Bettany in what is a generally good show. There's one standout ep, that not so coincidentally does not include Worthington, and the rest is watchable if not extraordinary.

Just finished this myself and I've got to echo Taf's comments, Bettany was brilliant but what the hell were they thinking when they hired Worthington? He's so ridiculously bland, a complete non-entity. It's very good TV but it could have been great with the right casting.

Yes, I like cartoons.

My kids have been watching Steven Universe recently so I've absorbed quite a bit of it by osmosis. It's pretty damn good, the song in the final episode of season 1 is brilliant.

Also caught Cupcake and Dino which may have the greatest theme tune of any kids program since Jossy's Giants.

Manhunt: Unabomber

This was superb. I was familiar with the story, but this was a really excellent dramatisation of the events (plus some admittedly made up stuff). Paul Bettany is absolutely incredible in it, giving empathy to a character who could have been portrayed as one-dimensional. Can't recommend it enough.

9/10.

Anyone seen that OJ Simpson series on Netflix? Hungry for more of the same kind of thing.

Is that True Crime Story: OJ Simpson? If so I thought that was really good, and preferred it over Manhunt (though I don't seemed to have liked Man Hunt as much as you)

Final Space 7/10: Fun premise and series, some decent characters, but nothing amazing.

I think on Netflix it's down as 'American Crime Story: The People Vs OJ Simpson'. It's the big budget one with Cuba Gooding JR and Ross from Friends. I'll give it a spin.

Yeh that's the one. I keep meaning to watch the (completely unrelated) 2nd series which was on iPlayer.

Orange is the New Black Season 6: 8/10- I think much better than the last season, however this needs to be wrapped up in a season or two for its own good.

Ozark season 2

A really powerful and dark show, it feels very different to season one but would say it's easily on par 8/10

The 100 - Season 5 - 7/10

Not the best season in terms of pacing but still decent enough to keep watching

The plot has gone a bit Lost esque with constant twists and turns and ridiculous amounts of double crossing going on.

It's also getting quite bleak in places, the show has always had a dark side with characters having to do some fairly bad things to survive but it's getting a bit OTT now with characters like Octavia and Clarke basically murdering people every five minutes despite the fact there's less than 500 human beings left on Earth :fp:
