Peaky Blinders, got bought series 1-3 for Christmas and then 4 when it came out. Brilliant all the way through.

Currently watching Requiem on BBC, not sure what to make of it after 3 episodes, they're all on iPlayer so I'll get them watched but it's not been as good as I was hoping.

Firefly - 7/10

+ Nice concept
+ Generally enjoyable episodes
+ Generally liked the light-hearted tone to it
+ Some good characters

- Some annoying characters
- Felt a bit low-budget in places
- Felt a bit…'naff' at times. Hard to describe, maybe a bit cringe-worthy and overly-sentimental at some points.
- Some poor acting on occasion, especially in gun fights
- Sometimes went too far down the comedic route, when a more serious tone would've been better

Would love to see a darker, more serious series with the same premise as Firefly. Will probably check out Serenity at some point.

It's been a few years since I watched it but I definitely felt the same as you on the above point. Obv agree with all the pros you listed as well. Also:

+ Fillion

I watched Firefly for the first time recently and I would agree with those cons Lotus. For me I think it also suffered from being over-hyped, watching it so long after it was released and hearing so many people raving about clearly gave me expectations that the show just couldn't reach.

It's a fun show with some nice characterisation and setting, but I don't get where the level of adoration it gets from the fan base is coming from.

Also watched Serenity right after finishing the series - overall I would say I preferred the movie over the series, although I couldn't put my finger on exactly why.

Back on the subject of Dirk Gently, I've just finished season 2. Glad it wasn't quite as cliffhanging an ending as the first season, especially considering it's not coming back :fp:

It's a lot better than I remember season 1 being, though. I liked how they actually developed Blackwing although I don't really buy the Ken heel turn. He's held prisoner by the guys and then suddenly starts running the place? Friedkin saving the day, though :datass:

It was good to get the occassional nod to Douglas Adams, too. The Thor reference in one of the first few episodes 8-)

Also agree with Brer about Amanda  Farah, too :datass:

Still a bit disappointed they culled the Stephen Mangan Dirk Gently series so quickly, though. Barnett never really feels like the Dirk Gently of the books. Good taste in jackets, mind you.

Yeah, it's decent, but I can't see where all the raging fans come from. Still, shame it ended after a short time, it had a lot of potential. Will check out Serenity for sure.

The Squid Girl

Picked it up on DVD from HMV recently because, well, umm, actually i have no idea. Anyhow, it is really, really weird stuff, so Japanese in every possible way, yet it's overall strangeness is mixed with likeable characters and fun (if short) episodes.

I really have never seen anything else like it - 7/10

Lovesick (Netflix) - 9

Blitzed through all 3 seasons of this over the last week or so, really great show! Such a good core cast and it handles the subject matter really well without getting either too sappy or too "dramatic".

Hope they make more of it and soon!

Morena Baccarin. She is absolutely hotter than hell in Homeland.

I've been rewatching some Dexter recently. I'm in the middle of rewatching S4 so won't rate that, but I did finish the second season. This is so, so good. Lundy hunting the Bay Harbour Butcher, Deb regaining her confidence and sass, Dexter's makeshift underwater graveyard being discovered, Doakes tailing him day and night and Lila's poisonous choas entailing all of it. Superb.

Star Trek: Discovery

It's obviously riddled with flaws, but it's entertaining as hell and moves along at a rapid pace which is great. Needs to develop some of the other characters, I swear half of the bridge crew haven't even had a line yet. High hopes for the second series.

7/10

McMafia - really enjoyed it, and it had a satisfying ending which seems to be a rarity with series these days.

It is a stupid name, no doubt about it, but the show itself was great.

Peaky Blinders 9/10

I've too much to go into here, but it's one hell of a consistently brilliantly show. I still think S1 is the best( it's purpose is much clearer, being as it is a full blown analogy of WWI) but the expansion to a gangster family saga is handled so well the following series are almost as excellent.

Two Doors Down on BBC2. It's basically a Scottish, lewder version of the Royle Family, but I've been enjoying the past 3 episodes a lot. It's the first sitcom I've watched in quite some time.

7/10

Same. :slol: As soon as I saw the advert for it I thought "that sounds stupid" and immediately discounted it. When there's so much 'out there' to watch, surely having a good title is one of the fundamentals.

I agree about Peaky Blinders, loved watching it myself as well :)

Anyway I've just finished watching Requeim on iplayer and I'd still say it's alright, probably a 7/10 being generous. It's good in parts but then a poor in others. The ending was also kind of odd, it's not like it was setting it up for a second series as the way it ended made it seem like a standalone series.

I'm kind of tired of hearing about Peaky Blinders. I watched a couple of episodes with the wife and from what I could tell, aside from having an embarrassingly gooseberry fool name, it appears to consist of Cillian Murphy and a bunch of other melters wandering around, trying to act all hard and intimidatory, calling people out for being pricks and telling them to strawberry float off.

I mean even I could do that yet people rave about it.

Well you don't have Cillian Murphy's eyes.

I've never watched any of it but it all seems to be filmed around here (a bunch of the interior shots were being filmed at a house literally just around the corner so we had to get the crew to move their van so we could actually get past them a couple of times) so everyone local raves about it too (to the point where there's "peaky blinders nights" at local pubs :dread: )
