I think he would have leapt at the chance before HBO came along, but now he has the chance to build his own thing and it's going very well for him.

John Oliver Stays Put At HBO As ‘Last Week Tonight’ Gets 2-Season Renewal

Silencing any chatter of a possible John Oliver return to Comedy Central to take over The Daily Show, HBO has renewed his weekly program, Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, for two more seasons. Each season will consist of 35 shows, with Season 3 running in 2016, to be followed by Season 4 in 2017.

There are some absolutely glorious cheapshots in this week's episode the audience groaning at the cosby line  and the single greatest line of Ed Norton's career

Next time I go to America I must remember to avoid bridges. And dams. And any roads. :dread:

Man, this week's episode. I knew College Football in the US was strawberry floated up because they did a bit on it for The Daily Show last year, but I didn't realize HOW strawberry floated up it was. Why do the players even do it? Is there no other way to become a pro other than be picked up as a college player?

By far the quickest and easiest way to go to the NFL is to be picked up in the college draft. That's where all the best prospects come from, so if you're a good player and opt not to go to college, the hill you have to climb to reach the Pro league and play in a meaningful capacity becomes Mount Everest.

Even if you don't get drafted in the NFL you'd need to be an ex-college player to get onto the practice teams/have anyone bother to scout you whilst playing canadian football/arena football.

In short your chances of making a league without college experience

NFL - god no
NBA - be amazing in high school (although I think they now require you to play for 1 year in college, so that option's dead)
MLB - decent chance of at least making it into the minor league without college
NHL - I think their minor leagues are relatively independent of college

It's a brilliant system from the school's perspective, college players make them billions and can't go on strike because not playing will ruin their chances of going pro.

You missed out:

MLS - No college needed but you have to be either really old or not wanted in Europe.

I've started watching this while I do university work. Something about John Oliver ranting puts me in a motivated mood.

This weeks episode is 45 minutes long. He went to interview Edward Snowdon, he took him to task on handing over the documents to the press without first reading them and knowing what he was handing over, also all the ensuing screw ups by those people. I think it was one of the least one sided interviews I have seen with Snowdon

I dont know why, but that sounds strawberry floating incredible.

What an absolutely brilliant episode and interview

Also discuss - does this show have possibly one of the catchiest intro tunes at the moment? It's better than GoT for me

Certainly the most informative interview with Snowden I've seen.

Great episode and Snowden interview.

I wish wish wish Oliver would stop shouting at the graphic to his top right after he makes a joke. He did it like 10 times this episode. Just make the joke and move one, you don't need to act it out every single strawberry floating time. It drives me crazy.
