Second Week for The Sims 3

EA’s ‘The Sims 3’ (-48%) claims a second week at No1 even though sales have halved over the launch week.

Activision Blizzard debut at No2 with sci-fi action-adventure ‘Prototype’ from respected Canadian developer Radical Entertainment (Simpsons: Hit & Run, Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, Scarface: World is Yours, Crash Tag Team/Crash of the Titans). Last week’s big new entry, THQ’s ‘Red Faction: Guerrilla’ (-31%) only drops one place to No3 and Nintendo take No4 with ‘Wii Fit’ (+18%) - since being knocked off No1 back in week 21 by a steady stream of quality new releases, Wii Fit has risen 1 place per week over the last 3 weeks, perhaps in preparation for another assault on the top spot to complete that famous record-in-waiting (needs 3 more No1’s for the all time No1 record). THQ’s ‘UFC 2009: Undisputed’ (-36%) drops 2 places to No5 and EA’s ‘EA Sports Active’ (-28%) also relinquishes 2 positions now at No6. Activision Blizzard have the highest climber with ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ (+79%) climbing 9 places to No7 thanks to price promotion. Also of note this week is new entry ‘Grand Slam Tennis’ from EA at No13 which is the first Wii MotionPlus title available and was launched with or without the Wii MotionPlus device (also released this week and features in our Accessories tracking report). Note that Nintendo’s first title to make use of this device is coming out on July 24th (Wii Sports Resort).

Not bad for GST, but not super-mega-amazing, either. I wonder if we'll see another second-week-spike.

Interesting to see Walk With Me! in the lower echelons. Its pricetag is undoubtedly off-putting but I've seen a bit of mainstream coverage of late, and I wonder if that'll start to rise over the next few weeks as a DS companion to Wii Fit, or whether its (pretty shocking) price point will hamper its chances.

Good to see Infamous still lurking around in there. I take it that its done reasonably well?

Shame the Centre Court roof will mean the end of the days when the BBC had to scramble for something to show. They could have had McEnroe and Cash play Grand Slam Tennis all afternoon.

It wouldn't surprise me if EA manage to wangle a bit of airtime to pimp the game at some point.

Pretty sure I noticed an EA sign at Queen's Club in the final yesterday.

No doubt GST will sell more over the coming weeks, I imagine if Murray gets even close to the final it'll start flying off shelves.

Yeah. Smart release date.

Based on what you guys (and the rllmuk crowd) are saying, I may well buy this.

Do it.

It may be the first motion-control game to be the exact opposite of simple, pick-up-and-play fun but it feels incredibly fluid and natural after a couple of days.

Just scanning some franchises, PS3 & 360 sales are remarkably close - especially when you couple in the disparity of hardware sold.

06 [PS2] FIFA 09 (117,000)

Presumably that's 117,000 PS2 owners who are still yet to upgrade to a Wii, PS3 or 360.

GTA IV the only game to do over a million units in a month since before March last year.

Looking at those figures it really does come over how massive Wii Fit is...its just...in a league of its own, it really is, nothing even comes close.

EDIT - Must be over 2 million units of Wii Fit sold since launch in the UK by now....thats stupid.

Looking at these numbers...does anyone really imagine that Sports Resort and Fit Plus won't be massive sellers this year? I seem to remember some people saying something along those lines during E3.

Little Big Planet (184,000)
Killzone 2 (184,000)

Total: 368,000

Both get on top 10 only once, both sell the same. Gears of war 2 gets in top ten twice. Little Big Planet and Killzone combined and Gears of war 2 still outsells them by almost 200,000 units.

Gears of War 2 (345,000)
Gears of War 2 (218,000)

Total: 563,000

I'm nailing my balls to the wall of Buckingham Palace & saying neither title will sell anywhere near as many as Wii Sports & Wii Fit.

:fp:

Thats got to be a joke, right? Since when did Sports Resort have to sell to anywhere near every single Wii owner to be a massive seller?

Even if they don't, they'll still be massive sellers. I'd say Resort will come reasonably close to Fit-type numbers.
