Wii Fit's Marathon Run at the Top

Nintendo take a fourth consecutive week at No1 with ‘Wii Fit’ (-11%), totalling 13 weeks at No1 in all (9 of which have come in 2009) and the title is gradually homing in on the all time record of 18 weeks at No1 on this chart, set back in late 2000 / early 2001 by Eidos’ ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’ on PS1, Dreamcast and PC.

The only new entry is right behind at No2, Atari’s ‘The Chronicles Of Riddick: Dark Athena’ on 360/PS3/PC. EA’s ‘The Godfather II’ (-48%) drops one place to No3 and EA’s ‘FIFA 09’ also drops one place to No4 (-25%). The rest of the All Formats Top 10 shows no change over last week. Capcom’s ‘Resident Evil 5’ is No5 (-17%), Nintendo’s ‘Professor Layton and the Curious Village’ is No6 (-31%), Nintendo also stay put at No’s 7 & 8 with ‘Mario Kart Wii’ (-32%) and ‘Wii Play’ (-27%). Activision Blizzard remain at No9 with ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ (-29%) and Take 2 stay at No10 with ‘Carnival: Funfair Games’ (-25%).

I'm not fighting any good fight. I don't even have the game, just like to make a comment on the chart topic in relation to what someone else says in a previous week.

It's not it's chart position (which is still pretty bad for a game that came out a month ago) anyway, it's the fact it cost so much only for it to not reflect that level of investment.

12th on the Wii chart. Deep sigh.

Everyone who didn't buy it should be shot in the face at point-blank range with a cow cannon.

Well, as I said last week there are plenty of games that came out in the same week that disappeared from the chart. People can only buy the game if they have the console and given that it's the most expensive console out there (and the smallest userbase of the 3 in the UK) what can realistically be expected? It got to number 1 and it's still selling, and still high in the PS3 individual chart.

I'm hoping that word of mouth will give it a boost, I think I would have been surprised at a stellar opening week. Fingers crossed it's up there next week. Probably wishful thinking though. :(

Still it's pretty depressing that everyone moans that there 'aren't any games on Wii' and then when a brilliant one comes along, no strawberry floater buys it.

Let's hope it has a long tail - it might be one of those games which never troubles the top 40 but hangs around outside it for ages and eventually, quietly, ends up posting decent numbers. I kind of hoped Nintendo might try and get behind this and give it a bit of marketing clout. It's worked with third-party publishers in the past, and this kind of game is deserving of greater exposure.

Yeah, I hope so. I was out and about yesterday and it had fairly decent positioning in HMV, GAME and the like. So if it can stay there for a bit and people get wind of how good it is, who knows? Still, you would hope that it's opening sales would have been enough to get into the chart. While I'm far more interested in how it does in the long run, that's the kind of thing that can knock it from its frontal position in a store, to the alphabetical bottom shelves. :(

Indeed true. I was hoping it'd be mooching around the lower reaches of the 40 but alas, 'twas not to be. :(

Ah well. The developers can at least rest in the knowledge that they've created what's almost certainly the best third-party game on the console and a near-cert for my GOTYSF.

Marvelous expect LKS to sell 124k across Europe.

Did it at least beat Pikmin 2?

You're a delight. A true delight.

And yeah, it outsold Pikmin 2.

What?

It's just a fact that "Core" games on Wii drop quickly so no point buying them at launch. They were slashing the price of Madworld within a week.
