I’m spending less and I think Gamepass will push my spending down further. I’m still a sucker for a season pass or dlc which makes me part of the problem, I guess, but I suspect the average I pay for a game is now far less than I used to. Like many have said, when you’re a little older there’s no point getting a game on release. I don’t have maseses I’d free time so quite often miss all the release buzz and I’ll happily wait for a cheaper price.

I now rarely spend more than £25-30 on a game. The only time I spend the full £40+ is when it’s a game I really really want or a Nintendo exclusive as they rarely ever drop significantly in price.

That said, I would never go above £45 as that’s just too much imo

I never pay full price for a game, always wait a month or so as they're usually half price at least (hello GT sport).

It's not that I can't afford it, I just don't see the point of throwing money away when it's guaranteed a discount.

Unless it's a Nintendo game in which case I HAVE to pay full price.

I'm mostly getting games in sales and through monthly digital subscriptions these days with a huge backlog of stuff to play - there's no way I'd pay even more for one game.

Depends on the game but I'm always happy to wait out the prices so that I can get a game at my preferred price point. Recent case in point; Zelda. I didn't want to pay more than £40 considering it's been out for almost a year. Ended up getting it for £37.

I've been trying to cut back for some time now and, in recent months, I have actually done so. I've finally realised that season passes are (usually) dreadfully poor value, too, so I've stopped buying them.

On PS4 I buy download versions and the combination of very high pricing combined with fast price reductions (sometimes within weeks of launch) bit me hard in the past so I am now holding off on most games at launch.

I tend to like to pay as little for a game as possible, most of the time I dont mind waiting and I think thats the main thing the quicker you need it usually the more you pay. The same is true with season passes, I will buy season passes but usually I wait till I have finished the actual games regular content and then start looking for DLC in sales etc If you want me to buy a game on day one then make it appeal to me so much that I cant not have it.

As for what a game is really worth well I have always had my own formula for this and thats I want at least an hour of single player play for every £1 I have spent and thats why I didnt mind spending full rrp on Skyrim on its day of release etc

Generally speaking if it's a game I'm looking forward to, or excited by I'm happy to pay full price at launch. That does depend on what other bullshit monetisation goes into the game though. Battlefront II and Shadow of War both went from day one purchases to "strawberry float off you're not getting anything from me" based on the egregious gooseberry fool they crowbarred into them.

Games I'm interested in I'll hold off on until I see it at a decent price.

Anything less than £20 is pretty much impulse buy territory for me at this point really.

Through heavy use of Steam, I tend to pay a minimal amount for my games if I can help it. However, if I really enjoy the game then I may buy the soundtrack or something that will support the developer more as I feel like they deserve it.

Since I'm fairly big into the ARMS community, there have been a lot of people questioning whether that game should've been $60 at launch or not. Personally with the amount of hours I've put in and the fun I've had, hell yeah. But someone who was looking more for a single player experience from it, then they'll fear short changed even since with the updates its had. But that would be more down to their personal expectation of the game more than anything else.

I am tired of hearing publishers and devs alike bemoaning low prices, they nickle and dime us for every strawberry floating penny, for gooseberry fool that should be in the game and by all acounts they thing I'm a banana split for not wanting to spend £40 one a game. I have a finite amount of money and i am also willing to wait for a game. I don't have the luxuary of selling on games (I wouldn't want to either TBH).

I have played Minecraft more than any other and it cost me £8, it didn't have a £200 million budget where they spend 80% on advertising for 2 years before the game even hits the shelves.

Went all digital this gen as the day one games I want are cheaper.
Other games I want but not straight away, I'll buy later on digital or disk for cheap and thanks to MS I never need to pay more than £8 for the games they release.

On the cost of games, i think a game should cost no more than £50 unless they have extra content

What games are you buying that are cheaper digitally on release?

Isn't that like the opposite of normal?

Placed like cdkeys and instantgaming often have keys cheaper prior to release; i'm tempted to preorder Gravel at the latter for half price.

Huh fair enough

Why do keys even exist for PS and Xbox? They have closed stores where the purchases are tied to your accounts, what do they need keys for?

I feel like game prices are really reasonable right now, for as long as I can remember new releases have typically cost around £40 and considering inflation (and the much greater costs of game development these days) that should really be much higher by now. I don't tend to spend anywhere near that anymore though, I've probably bought less than 10 games at full launch price in the last 3 or 4 years and those have generally been games I haven't wanted to miss out on having from day one. Even then it's usually possible to find them at least a little lower than RRP.

Digital games have really changed the market for me because they drop in price so quickly, if I know I want to play a game at some point (but am in no rush) then why pay £40 for it at RRP, or even £20 at 50% off? I usually wait until the game has at least 75% off and generally until it has reached Steam's magical £3.74 price point before I bother. With console games I still tend to buy Physical copies but even then they drop quickly and although they rarely drop as low as £3.74 you can still frequently find them for £10-15 before too long.

Perhaps the only exception I have now are Nintendo games because there's very rarely much choice other than to pay full price for them!
