This is very funny. I'm not sure being labelled a gay icon necessarily means you're being sexualised. Like, Liza Minelli is a gay icon but nobody thinks she's sexy.

This quote from some twat criticising the piece is hilariously petty:

In reality, the photo which prompted the piece shows a four-year-old boy who is smartly dressed and excited about being on a helicopter with his male father and female mother.

This world could probably do with a nuclear war to be honest. Too many absolute scrotes about.

It's not sexualising him but it's stupid as strawberry float to call a 4 year old a gay icon.

Leave the poor little sod alone.

Who the hell thinks about sex at age 4?
There's tons of more interesting things to think about like learning to ride a bike or swimming or just generally running about like a loon.

What makes a 4 year old an icon of anything?

Ridiculous article cynically generating debate to sell copies.

The PinkNews website describes itself as the "premier LGBT news outlet in the UK and beyond".

He also said that until today, he had "never heard of Jim Allister" and had not yet received his letter, but had read its contents in the press

Those two statements don't add up. On one hand the Pinknews describes itself as the premier LGBT news outlet in the UK and on the other they have an executive saying they've never heard of Jim Allister. He has been a consistent opponent of gay marriage in the Northern Ireland assembly and his party is widely viewed as being hostile to the gay community. Saying they've never heard of him might make for a decent sound bite but it doesn't say much for their coverage of LGBT issues in Northern Ireland if anyone bothers to stop and think about it for a second.

The photo is pretty funny and I don't think calling him a gay icon in a tongue-in-cheek way is intrinsically offensive. But I do think making a media spectacle of a small child is in poor taste and - intentionally or not - PinkNews are contributing to that by writing articles about him, and I find that a bit disappointing. He's just a kid, he should be left alone.

It is sort of in poor taste, especially considering he is our future Queen.

strawberry float

If that was an adult you'd have to say it is a very camp pose.

But, overall I agree with Karl that it's poor form to make a media spectacle of someone so young.

Wasn't Honey Boo Boo also seen as a gay icon? She wasn't much older to start with.
