I thought the game was pretty linear. It always feels as though you are pushed in the direction the game wants you to go. You are right about it being slow though, especially the first chapter. Later chapters do ramp things up quite a bit.

I was so engrossed that I was doing a chapter a day. That's pretty fast for me, for these types of games. The first section of the game feels so slow that I actually ended the demo soon after Max wakes up in class. :fp:

Had I not bought the disc version, I would have probably never played the rest of it based on the first chapter. There wasn't enough to hook me.

I am glad I stuck with it. It has some very well done scenes.

I'd argue it's only a curse if it doesn't grab you by the end of the corridor walk after the first class. If you aren't hooked on the style and tone by that point you probably won't be.

Personally, I love the pace. It's a narrative game, not an action piece. Why does it need to any faster?

It gives you several wide open spaces to just have a mooch about in, which in my opinion can stunt the pace of the story. Mind you, Telltale's efforts aren't exactly 100mph either.
I thought LiS had some lovely themes to think about in there, but it's not quite engaging enough for me, 2 and a bit episodes in.

I finished the first episode last night.

I forgot to save the bird :(

I also missed a few photos and some optional bits and bobs, need to pay a bit more attention for the next one!

You're so lucky that you can play this all together. Waiting last year for each episode to be released was agony. Definitely one of my highlights, flaws and all.

Praise be to the end of series compilations! No idea how you good people, who opt to buy episodic games as they're released, put up with the excruciating waits between eps. I couldn't do it.

I know! Finished the second one last night, still missed some photos but it looks like I did all the optional 'things'.

It's good! The bit with Kate on the roof was really tense. I can see worse than that happening though...

I was gutted at that, as enough of my decisions before that scene seemed to be in the favour of her not jumping...but I think it was me picking the "there are plenty of videos online" dialogue that lead to her jumping...I felt so awful afterwards, the game goes to great lengths to guilt trip you over it!

Yeah, I think that was the key question. There was quite an LA Noir shift in temperament between that and the outcome of the question before.

I'll now be bricking it for the rest of the game!

The worse thing about saving Kate was that I only managed it thanks to information about her family I got from brazenly browsing through the stuff in her dorm room without any respect at all for her privacy. If I had just left respectfully alone I would have been clueless. So the moral of the story is.... spy on your friends? I don't know.
