Pub gives out free gin in exchange for.... rhubarb

Image

The Outlook Greene King pub on Kings Road is offering a refreshing gin and tonic drink to all customers who come into the bar and present a stick of rhubarb.

That is not a typo, if you bring in a stick of rhubarb to the bar, you shall be rewarded with a G&T. Provided, of course, you show photo ID to prove you are above the legal drinking age.

Christopher King, general manager at the Outlook, said: “Everyone loves a gin and tonic on a British summer day, and there’s no denying a chilled glass that you haven’t had to pay for tastes even better.

'Humping bunny' graffiti on Sheppey branded 'awful'

A controversial graffiti artist has upset a community by painting a picture of two "humping rabbits" on a wall.

The decoration appeared in an alley in St George's Avenue, Sheerness, on Friday after the international muralist Jules Muck had plastered a giant Harry Potter face on the front of Denise Kerry's home in nearby Medway Road.

Her actions immediately launched a debate about whether her work was art or vandalism.

Do they not think people in Reading know their left from their right? Seems like an odd way of captioning that photo...

The Pope flew over Cheltenham!

https://www.gloucestershirelive.co.uk/n ... ng-1937279

Pope Francis may well have looked down upon Gloucestershire this morning as he flew directly above the county on his way to Ireland.

The Pontiff was due to land in Dublin at 10am for a first papal visit to the country since 1979 and his mass tomorrow will form the centrepiece of the World Meeting of Families - expected to draw a crowd on 500,000 people.

Not much of a story really. It rained a lot and so Noah Priddle booked a cruise to Mount Ararat.

Dursley's new car park delayed

A contractor has been announced to complete Dursley's new car park.

A spokesman for Dursley Town Council said: "Following a competitive tender process, the council have appointed experienced civil engineering contractor Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd.

"Regrettably, the project is not going to be completed in October and the new car park is not going to be available for this year’s walking festival.

"During the demolition process a rear wall of the Reliance House building was found to be retaining the land behind the wall and we have been required to strengthen this existing wall as part of our final design.

"This unexpected complication has resulted in time being lost for the investigation and design of the new structure required. We are working closely with our contractor to minimise the impact of our scheme, but it will require a longer construction period than originally estimated and the loss of at least one parking space.

"Our revised layout with this new wall and other minor changes including changing the flow of traffic to clockwise will be submitted to Stroud District Council imminently.

"Once these minor amendments have received permission we will be able to commence with the work on site.

The mayor, Cllr Neil Grecian said: “Up until now the project has gone very well and to plan, it was impossible to foresee the complication with the hidden retaining wall prior to the demolition and we are working closely with our consultants to solve the problems faced.

"Undoubtedly this will add costs to the scheme, but the town council will continue to monitor the costs closely and budget accordingly."

Local news up here tends to be people getting in trouble for wearing black face, I wish I was joking

https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/news/3 ... blackface/

Image

A REVELLER blacked-up and wore a supermarket bag to be ‘Lidl Wayne’ at a gala — three years after the fair was rocked by a Golliwog race row.

The moron, slathered in dark face and body paint, sported the tasteless get-up to spoof Grammy-winning US rapper Lil Wayne, 35.

But the stunt in Wick, Caithness was slammed by charity Show Racism The Red Card Scotland after snaps of the punter appeared online.

Boss Priya Khindria said: “Blackface is an out of date practice rarely seen these days, demonstrating that public attitudes have long since moved on.

“It’s always had the potential to offend. Crude caricatures of black people should be considered unacceptable.

Disgusting moment Costa customer SPITS at coffee shop worker in row over change
“We believe that these practices caricature differences that could lead to discrimination.”

A witness also blasted the man for his “obvious racism and ignorance”.

Pals with him dressed as US President Donald Trump, North Korean despot Kim Jong-un and Scooby-Doo.

In 2015, we told how three teens blacked-up as Golliwogs for the annual event.

They faced a backlash but dodged prosecution as cops received no complaint.

The other thing is that the size of it, it was huge. They must have been keeping that in for days.

Important Bench News!

http://www.theargus.co.uk/news/16683952 ... ton-co-op/

Image

Bizarrely, a new bench outside the Co-op in Hangleton faces the shop instead of the road.

Kelly Howells, who lives in Hangleton, said: “I’m not sure what the council was thinking with this bench. It’s rather odd. They had one job.”

A spokesman for the Brighton and Hove City Council said: “We’re trying to find out if there was a reason for the bench to be facing the shop.

“Once we’ve spoken to the people who fitted the bench, if necessary we will change the positioning.”

A man who works at the Co-op said: “The council removed the old one, which was facing the right way, because it had been damaged and was a health and safety issue.

“They put a new one in facing the wrong way, a few customers have said it’s very interesting.”
