I was in Cardiff watching the footy on Super Saturday. I will never forget being on the train coming home and having no idea about Mo, Ennis or Rutherford. Everybody on the train wanted to know if we had won any golds but nobody could get a mobile signal (and that train was slow as strawberry float :x ). When we finally got mobile signals again, the cheers for Mo and Ennis were only matched by the hilarity of hearing an entire train asking each other "Who the strawberry float is Greg Rutherford?".

Definitely yes. In particular, for Danny Boyle's opening ceremony and for raising the profile of paralympic sport through the roof. Got my tickets for Sunday and I can't wait.

It's because the olympics were in London you pleb. Also London is the capital of the country, for the same reason it was the Bejing Olympics, the Athens Olympics.

As a non sporty person I really enjoyed the olympics and watching Wiggins there and also in the Tour a month or so earliar actually got me into watching road cycling.

The Olympic stadium is hardly a Lemon with The World Athletics championships in 2017 and the Rugby World Cup staging multiple games there and obviously the football.
The Swimming pool looks better in legacy mode than it did during the games and the Velodrome is always going to be massively popular. The Baskertball stadium has gone allong with the diving venue but the Olympic Park itself will get a massive upgrade and become a lovely public park.
I'm looking forward to visiting again when The Orbit re-opens and I can see the new park in all its glory.

Totally worth it. I may be a little biased, as I'd been hyped for them since we got picked as the host city, and the Olympics are by far and away my favourite sporting event (it's wall-to-wall sport in my house for those three weeks  ). However, it was amazing to see the whole country shift from mardy grumbling to fully unified support in the space of a few days. I don't think we'll ever see a national mood like it again - the closest we got before was when we hosted Euro 96 (dat summer :datass: ), but football doesn't unite the country like the Olympics does.

In terms of venues, it'll take a few years until we can see how well used the Olympic Park will be. It won't be in full legacy mode until about 2015. Having said that the stadium is being used this weekend, and my gf's brother went to a festival there last week.

Participation-wise it has been a disappointment - in my experience the British Judo Association have possibly the worst website I have ever seen, which makes participation so hard I'm beginning to think of sacking it off and doing something else. The fact is that you can encourage people all you want, but they need to make the final step and start doing it.

Staydead - Canberra is the capital of Australia, but your point is entirely correct.

People do remember him, just not his name. He will basically always just be remembered as the ginger jumper. :slol:

Absolutely worth it. GB really came together and as has already been mentioned - I'll never forget Super Saturday for as long as I live.

Check out my YouTube channel!
One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

Its a lemon compared to the City of Manchester Stadium which was properly planned and had Man City playing there a year after after the Commonwealth games. West Ham won't move in until 2016 and after another £200million is spent on converting the stadium. Its a lemon.

Yes, it was brilliant. And I'm really not a sports guy at all.

I'd like London to bid again for a fourth Olympics in 2028.

Since the games at least a few grass roots places struggling financially down here have had money given to them by Sport England including my local cricket club having £30,000 thrown in. Not sure whether this is as a result of the games or not but certainly not complaining.

Even if not, the games were absolutely worth it - no doubt.

Complete waste of money.

I was living in London at the time of the build-up to the games and, as such, I was subjected to an increase in my Poll Tax to pay for the damned thing. I wasn't asked and I wasn't given an opt-out - the money was just stolen off me for an event I had no interest in and never intended viewing in the slightest. I couldn't refuse to pay for it without risking a court appearance. So it was for many thousands of Londoners who were forced to pay for something that started out as a New Labour vanity project and ended up a cheesy, distasteful Cameron smug-fest.

Labour had the last laugh, though - Danny Boyle's determinedly socialist opening ceremony featuring the NHS was a two-fingered salute to the coalition and a national embarrassment I doubt we'll ever live down, whilst the vastly over-budget games themselves seemed to have served their organisers, especially in the figure of Lord Coe, very well indeed if Private Eye are to be believed.

Legacy? Pah! I'm losing weight right now (almost a stone and half in the past two months) and it has bugger all to do with the sh*tty Olympic 'legacy'. 'Legacy' is just lip-service from vacuous politicians and other interested parties hell-bent on dressing up what was a shockingly expensive pantomime at a time of severe economic hardship to make it more palatable to a dubious - and broke - electorate.

London 2012 = I'm glad it's all over (just wish someone would tell the BBC).

So you had no intention of watching it but you still complain about the opening ceremony which you presumably watched?
