> Welcome, GRcadians! Inspired by the amiibo thread, this great new place is where you can share photos of your gaming gear with folk that will appreciate them.

> You can paste photos of any gaming stuff; games, collectibles, manuals, magazines, systems... whatever you really dig. Other GRcadians can then enjoy your pics and post their thoughts and questions.

> You don't have to own complete collections or expensive items; anything is cool, particularly if you can make the photos interesting and provide a little background information.

Let's... show & tell!

Hey, there! I was lucky enough to pick up a few GameBoy items that look pretty neat. I've asked Kirby to help me out and share them with you guys.

Take it away, Kirbster!

> #1 Kirby was really getting into this. I didn't suggest unveiling stuff, but he insisted. Only for this first one, K!

Yep, It's the Japanese version of Tennis. The Japanese GameBoy boxes are just so dinky and they look really smart although, being cardboard, they do often suffer through wear and tear.

Choplifter II, F-1 Race, Golf and Tennis.

Two classic shooters, R-Type and Nemesis, shrunk down for handheld fun!

> #4

Konami's famous Castlevania series appeared on GameBoy - here we have the original and the much-improved sequel.

> #5

The Dark Knight could be played out on GB. Check out the Batman Movie game and the subsequent Return Of The Joker.

> #6

Kirby opened one of the boxes to show off the contents. The carts are small but they still take up the bulk of the packaging!

And that's my collection. Here they are stacked up ready for Kirbs to pop 'em back into the cupboard.

I just knew that Kirbs wouldn't cope in this heat! :-).

Do you get your stuff checked by that video game rating thing Jawa as its all in brilliant condition.

Some of those old boxes are beautiful mini bits of art, the Castlevania ones in particular are gorgeous. Seems like something's been lost since the N64/PS era as everything just goes to rather plans dvd box sleeve inserts.

Sadly I don't really have anything impressive to show off.

Jawa, you are a credit to the forum. I often just look for your name on the board index so I can read your delightful posts

I don't have anything as rare or interesting as your fancy game boy carts but with some careful composition I should be able to come up with something.

I am extremely fussy about keeping my stuff in good condition, Captain', whether it's old or new gear. If I buy older second-hand stuff, which I rarely do nowdays, I'll only pick it up if it's in excellent nick or I have a spare case / box that I can use. In eBay terms I'll only buy if it's in mint (which I regard as being "as new") shape; I find it odd how "good" and "very good" are often used when I'd suggest the condition is "pretty ropey" :-). I've only bought stuff from Japan twice but I love how games for sale there are usually exactly as described or even better.

Oddly enough I have embaced digital gaming over the past year; mainly because nowdays packaging is often very basic and no manual is provided but also because I like to just "turn on and play", especially as updates and patches are usually required anyway.

Captain Kinopio wrote:Sadly I don't really have anything impressive to show off.

Oh, dude... please don't think that only "flash", "old" or "expensive" things can be posted. It'd be ace to see someone's modern game shelf or their console / rig setup. If someone had, say, a small collection of PS3 games, a few figures or still used their Wii, they'd be a great contribution to the thread :-).

Thanks, hamm - and that's the spirit! As I just posted, I'd hate for folk to think that GRcadians wouldn't want to see a a few photos of their gaming stuff - it was people posting little pics in the amiibo thread that made me want to expand upon the theme. "I'm excited!"

Collecting is about keeping your eyes open but luck plays a great part, too. I grabbed those Japanese GameBoy games on eBay about five years ago; they were badly-described as something like "9 Gameb oy selection" (i.e. spelling errors and an awful description) ... I just stumbled across 'em and paid nine quid including postage :-).

Full set of FFVIII Triple Triad cards. These are the character cards, the rarest and most valuable - they go for around £25 - £50 each.

Wow! That's an awesome collection of cards, DB! I'm not that familiar with the Final Fantasy Series - I've only played XIV! - but I really like the artwork on those cards. Do the cards form part of a game, or are they just for viewing? Do you have other cards in the collection, too? I guess that they weren't available in the UK?

(Sorry, dude - so many questions!)

I've got a couple of semi rare games in decent condition but nothing outstanding like those Japanese GB games.

I have one of the few UK limited edition copies of Unlimited Saga that doesn't have a crease in the cardboard sleeve, it's the most mint condition game I own, shame it's a bit of a crap game.

I've also got a still sealed copy of Spirit Tracks with the tin and Link gashapon figure.

There's a mini game in Final Fantasy VIII which features these cards.

Final Fantasy Wiki wrote:Triple Triad is played on a three-by-three (3x3) square grid of blank spaces where cards will be placed as the game progresses. Each card has four numbers (known as Ranks) placed in top left corner; each number corresponds to one of the four sides of the card. These numbers range from one to ten. Cards can have elemental alignments that affect the gameplay if there are elemental icons on the game board.

In a basic game each player has five cards. A coin-flip decides who begins. The player who wins the coin toss may choose a card to play anywhere on the grid. After the first card is played, the opposing player may play a card on any unoccupied space on the board. The game continues with players' turns alternating.

To win, a majority of the total ten cards played (including the one card that is not placed on the board) must be of the player's card color. To do this, the player must capture cards by placing a card adjacent to an opponent's card whereupon the 'ranks' of the sides where the two cards touch will be compared. If the rank of the opponent's card is higher than the player's card, the player's card will be captured and turned into the opponent's color. If the player's rank is higher, the opponent's card will be captured and changed into the player's color instead. Capturing can only occur during that player's turn, and no other opponent can capture a card during said turn.

A draw occurs if the player and the opponent possess equal numbers of cards in their color on the board. Depending on card rules, this can be defined by a sudden death scenario where the first person to capture a card in a new game wins, or by playing until a winner is defined. The winner claims a prize of taking one or more of the loser's cards, depending upon the rules in effect.

Cards have different levels. Low level cards have low ranks, like 1's and 2's and 3's, while high level cards have 8's, 9's, and 10's. Some cards are considered "rare".

Different rule variations affect gameplay, such as can the player see the opponent's cards or not, or whether the player can choose their hand or if it is randomly generated from the cards they own. There are also different rules to capturing the opponent's cards—Same and Plus let the player set up combos if the cards' ranks align favorably against one another, allowing for more strategic gameplay. Trade rules dictate which and how many cards the winner can take from the loser.

There's 110 cards in the set, which feature monsters, Guardian Forces and the characters themselves (the pic I posted). They were only released in Japan, in 1999. I picked my set up in parts on eBay about 10 years ago. :)

Iron', don't sweat on "rarity" or "value", man - any item or collection will get equal visibiity and commentary in this thread!

Dude, I'd love to see a pic of that - I've never seen the set in real life so a photo would be terrific :toot: .

That's cool background info, Danger - it sounds like you must have had quite a job sourcing them. A bit of sweat and searching makes things all the nicer when you manage to obtain them. Cheers for sharing them here!

Nice thread, although "Show and Tell" would have been a catchier title.

I have bunch of retro games and memorabilia, but most of it is in the loft at my parents'. Maybe I can take some pics in the future.

Just remembered I have a UK copy of Pinball of the Dead on GBA in almost mint condition which I gather is quite hard to find.

I like the tag, Zerudaaaaa!, and the thread has now become "Show & Tell!". It'd be cool to see pics of a few things from your collection.

That sounds neat, Ironhide - maybe your bro could take a snapshot for us when you guys get the chance!

I sold most of my retro stuff a few months back, so this is all I really have left to contribute to the thread...

Not exactly that exciting, but I've started a small collection of 360 shmup games that were only release in Japan. These aren't that hard to get hold of, but I like the exclusivity of owning games not available over here, plus I'm a big shmup fan and these are all ace games.

Image

Top row (L-R) - Bullet Soul: Infinite Burst, Espgaluda 2 Black Label, Muchi Muchi Pork & Pink Sweets (Cave The Best re-release)
Bottom row (L-R) - Mushihimesama Futari Ver 1.5, Shooting Love 10th Anniversary XIIZeal & ΔZEAL (Special Edition w/ soundtrack CD)

I'd like to get a few more but they're very pricey to import, so it's a case of keeping an eye on the 'Bay.

I have a large collection of Edge magazines (doesn't everyone?!) but these are the highlight of them. For the 200th issue they released 200 separate covers, and I have three of them still sealed in their poly bags.

Image

Image

I have #18 Amaterasu (Okami) #54 Stranger (Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath) and #115 Katamari Damacy. I'd have liked to have got some of the Nintendo ones but they were pretty hard to come by. In a similar (but non-game related) vein, I also have a sealed Empire magazine 500 Greatest Movies special with limited Akira cover.

And last and most certainly least I have this rather random Sega handheld toy from a McDonalds Happy Meal.

Image

Again, not rare at all, and this is the only one I have from a set of six, but it's kind of a nice oddity to have. It's supposed to be Outrun, only really really gooseberry fool.
