Entertainment

Hollywood Writers Strike - Causes the biggest backlash in American history, causing many great TV shows to either be cancelled or cut short.
Britney's Comeback - After a catastrophic 2007 Britney Spears comes back strong in 08. Ignoring the miming fiasco on the X Factor, her new album goes straight into the No1 slot in the US and she starts her new tour in 2009.
Batman - The Dark Knight becomes Heath Ledgers greatest (after Brokeback Mountain apparently) and unfortuantly last film. Stepping into the shoes of the Joker, Heath finally kills off Jack Nicholson's Joker with a Pencil to the eye.
Wall-E - Proves yet again that Pixar are the masters of thier profession, will UP continue the trend?
Indy 4 - Shows that some movies should never be given a new lease of life. Harrison Ford was too old for the role and Shia LeBouf should stay with Bumblebee and Optimus Prime and leave every other movie alone.

News

Obama - Barack Obama makes US history by becoming the 1st ever black president.
The Credit Crunch - The whole world is in serious financial trouble and we lose a national treasure with the closure of Woolworths.

Sport

F1 - Lewis Hamilton becomes the youngest ever Formula 1 World Champion after a thrilling race in Brazil, Honda step down from the sport due to the credit crisis and the BBC finally get the rights from ITV.
Olympics - Micheal Phelps wins 8 Gold Medals in 8 consecutive days making him the most successful Olympian ever, Usain Bolt thrashes the 100 and 200 meters world record, Rebecca Adlington wins 3 golds for the UK swim team, the UK cycling team prove yet again that they are unbeatable and Bejing (in my opinion) was the best ever Olympics I have ever watched.
Football - Man United win the Champions League and Team GB fail to reach the World Cup.

Please feel free to add your fondest memorys of 2008 and I'll update the OP on a regular basis.

Usain Bolt beating the 100m WR in the Olympic final by jogging over the finish line really was something special to watch.

Yes, what a year. It's not all good stuff, but it was certainly eventful.

I remember the Writer's Strike well. They made Heroes go bad. :|

I have one, anyway - Gordon Brown announced yesterday that British troops will completely withdraw from Iraq from May 2009 to July 2009.

Fun news, the Screen Actors Guild is probably going to strike over the same issues.

Yes. It is excellent, arguably one of the best films of last year (or was it year before, I forget).

Wikipedia wrote:Half caste is a term used in the United Kingdom and other English-speaking parts of the world. An example is a child of black African and white European parentage. The term mulatto (from Spanish "Mulato") has also been used for this particular mixture. Both terms are considered impolite and potentially offensive in the U.S., as the words have been used pejoratively in the past to ostracize and isolate the offspring of such unions. The term 'half caste' was once considered acceptable in the U.K. but this is in decline. For example, "children of the plantation" (the children of African-American slaves and their European-American masters in the U.S. Southern states) were not accepted as heirs, and in most cases, the relationship was never acknowledged, and "half-caste" conveyed the deliberate exclusion.

I don't agree. Both Jack and Heath's Jokers are both brilliant and so very different from each other.

Wow, cool photos. I love that Polar Bear one. The shot of the massai warriors, it just looks like a bunch of guys in a park taking part in some leisure activity - not fighting a rival tribe!
