On a cheaper 4K set, less so because the technology within the set just isn't there. A lot of manufacturers have just slapped the HDR logo on there because it can accept the format. And then people look at it and go 'well I don't know what the fuss is all about' because it's lacking that "wow!" they were expecting.

HDR is not at a mass market point yet, and not every set will even accept the full array of formats. For example my TV can accept HDR 10 (used for PS4) and Hybrid Log Gamma (broadcast, when it eventually arrives) but not Dolby Vision and Advanced HDR.

The Sony RE435 doesn't have an in-built App Store or WiFi, though it does have USB. It's also currently retailing for the same price as the next model up.

I don't know the input lag for gaming, though Sony are marketing them more for PS4/Pro users who want to dip their toes into HDR gaming.

With no reviews though, I'd definitely go to Curry's or wherever to see it in person.

Got you, I think this sounds like a set I'm going to pick up, I found them on Argos

Am I right in thinking the only difference between them is that the first model is a Smart TV? The rest of the features are the same? The first on mentions PS4 as well so I think it makes sense to buy the first one out of the 2 right?

I'all go check them out first but I can get a voucher for Argos to make the TV price £432 which is close to my budget

As they're now the same price, you would be better off buying the Sony KDL40WE663BU, yes.

The spec sheet is identical, bar the WiFi, Smart features and Screen Mirroring (content and apps from a compatible smartphone to the TV). Which considering the £30 RRP increase, sounds about right.

The top end model (WE753) adds their TRILUMINOS tech and increases the screen size by 3 inches. Probably not worth the £100 extra though, because then the price is in 4K territory.

In terms of 4K though I would seriously consider checking out the Samsung UE40MU6100 with 5 year guarantee: https://www.johnlewis.com/samsung-ue40m ... k/p3215451, and reviewed here: http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/mu6300. It's simply got a different product code in the UK to the USA. In terms of input lag for gaming it's one of the best TVs of 2017 and Samsung's current best performer (20.2ms).

Hmmm, so out of the Sony one or the Samsung, would you say the Samsung would be the better option for me?

Edit: this the same one? http://www.argos.co.uk/product/6875648

I believe so. Maybe the colour is slightly different or something, because the blurb says MU6100 but the title says MU6200.

I would purchase it from John Lewis or similar though because of the 5 year guarantee. I've dealt with Samsung customer service on a couple of occasions and I've not had a good experience.

The Samsung is certainly better suited to taking advantage of the PS4 Pro than the Sony 1080p set is, and is also better future proofed being 4K.

Call me cynical but it just seems like another gimmick to convince people to buy a new TV every couple of years.

Interested to understand this too as probably in the market for a new 42" soon to replace a Panny Plasma that's showing signs of needing replacing. It's not the main TV in the house but used for gaming by my kids
