I discovered last night that for my £9.99 a month I can log into Lovefilm through my PS3 and access thousands of films that I can watch for free over the internet!

I think the only minus point is that you can't watch brand new ones for free, but with thousands of older films to choose from I'm not bothered at all.

And I could still watch the newer titles using the postal delivery service anyway.

Are there any catches to this deal that I've missed, or is it a genuinely good thing?

I don't fancy watching films in shat-o-vision, thus I think the feature is a waste of time. Blu Ray or not at all!

If you have a Lovefilm subscription then it's a free extra feature.

It's included in the LoveFilm subscription, AFAIK.

The streaming is pretty shoddy quality though, even on my laptop. God knows what it would look like blown up to a proper tv screen.

I tried to sign up on a free trial to test the PS3 thing, but they botched my registration and it was never properly activated. So I cancelled it.

I have tried loading the interface on the PS3 just to watch the sample videos but they were sluggish, jerky and poor quality. My broadband speed is ok, about 7/8 mbps.

It's a lovely idea and maybe it'll take off one day, but for now, not worth getting Lovefilm for.

When I tried it the quality varied a lot depending on the film. Some were awful but others weren't so bad.

It's only in SD, if you're willing to put your eyes through such torment then I suppose it's ok.

I was really impressed with the HD movie streaming on Zune marketplace though.

I suppose he means it's not pay-per-view, either.

It'd be great if it didn't take ages to load and was poor quality (which it generally is). I remember watching Days of Heaven on my computer, so strawberry floating bad. I wanted to watch Oldboy, ended up just using a website to stream it, much better quality. Bit of a shame really, but a great service for actually renting DVDs and games I think.

Has anyone used Zune movies on Xbox, it's really good, you click "buy" and the movie starts, full HD, no buffering, no artifacts, really impressive stuff.

The problem is that it's pretty much all pay-per-view, and what films are available to buy are ludicrously expensive (£15 for Ghost in the Shell? You're having a laugh, mate).

Perhaps my eyes are bad, but I think the picture quality is fine. I just have an ordinary flat-screen TV and it comes up as pretty much DVD quality, except in some dark areas you can tell it's a bit 'blocky'.

I spent so long trying to choose a film from the vast on-screen database last night that I fell asleep before making my decision.

I notice The Hurt Locker is up there this week so that's tonight sorted :D
