A huge ball ache for me, this one. I've been a member for years and still regularly get discs sent to me. Bloody Amazon who own them now, on about more people using streaming services or whatever. Yeah cool but what about the tons of movies and tv shows that aren't on Netflix etc? Their own service - Prime instant - cannibalises it's own other arm here, AND there's not much good stuff on it.
Has anyone else ever rented by post? What made you stop? Sad to see LoveFilm go?

Without Amazon it would have gone under years ago. Be thankful for the good times man.

Also, I haven't rented DVDs for years. Digital or quite.

Kind of a natural progression really. LoveFilm killed Blockbuster(s) and now streaming has killed LoveFilm and is slowly killing DVD and Blu Ray. And better quality screens and audio in the home is beginning to eat away at cinema.

LoveFilm is better than streaming for a few reasons, mainly allowing you to watch films that aren't available on-demand. Maybe not so much now with 4K and HDR, but the picture and sound quality was also a lot better on Blu Ray.

I personally stopped using LoveFilm when they removed game rentals though.

I dropped Love film when they stopped doing games, it was pretty much all I used it for. DVD rentals were few and far between for me.

Didn't even realise this was still a thing.

A lot of people think this, from looking at comments sections in the new stories about this. It saved me literally thousands of pounds over the years.
Subtitle support on streaming services is mixed at best, another reason why I'm sad. Thankfully there is a service called Cinema Paradiso that also does rentals. I bet they're rubbing their hands today.

I stopped using Lovefilm because almost every disc I received was scratched to high heaven and wouldn't play.

Contacted them about it numerous times but just got the stock response of "try updating your firmware".

I also stopped using them when they dropped games, though I'd considered rejoining just recently.

The film industry in general pisses me off. When competing music services exist that have pretty much 99% of all music ever made in the world ever, it amazes me that Netflix et al have the dreadful selection that they do. Lovefilm was awesome because you could get any film put to disc, much earlier than they ever appeared on any streaming service. It's a real shame that we're basically going to have to put up with that inferior library from now on.

This. I thought it had stopped years back.

I actually spotted one of the LoveFilm envelopes in the outgoing post tray at work the other week and assumed it was like a leftover from days gone by that someone was finally returning.

I stopped using 'em when they ended their gaming rental service. Still, it's a shame to see them go.

I remember when the service first started out and you could just endlessly use free 6/3 month trial codes on the same account over and over again. All you had to do was close your account at the end of the free trial, wait a day, then get another free trial code from Hot UK Deals and reactivate your account with it. The trail even let you have the 3 discs at a time priority service for the full period.
Don't think I actually paid for the service for at least the first 2 years it was running, though when they finally cottoned on and plugged that loophole I did pay, but I downgraded to 2 discs at a time, then might have eventually downgraded to 1 at a time like I now have with Boomerang.

There is a site called cinema paradiso that is still doing films by mail.

I'm quite tempted to sign up.

I used to have a sub, before I used newsgroups I rented the disks and ripped them.

Was a pretty decent service at the time.

Used to use them all the time but, like many others on here, cancelled when they stopped doing games. Saved me so much cash. I did look into Boomerang as a replacement but their price plans and having to pay more for new games was a load of shite so I didn't bother.

I didn't even realise Love Film were still going.

That's gutting. I still use it, it's good for obscure foreign and art house DVDs and blurays. I've been a member since it was screen select.

I hate streaming films and I enjoy getting the thrill of getting random discs through the post (I never check my notification emails)

SAD.

Yeah and what about the shite quality of these streams they show? Dumbing down quality again. As soon as I found out, I cancelled my subs to them. £12/month for a shitty streaming service - no thanks.

I've been a member for years but didn't tend to use it so much recently as they went for a 2 discs at a time service, and nothing more than that - put me off ordering just 2 at a time because when you factor in the 'turkeys' you get in films, you're only getting a 50/50 chance of a good film. But if I could've ordered 3 or 4 films at once, I'd be guaranteed at least one brilliant film, otherwise it would spoil my nights entertainment.

Free telly is a much better prospect in that regard.

BUT, it WAS a brilliant service and I WILL miss it definitely.
