Loyalties

I found out yesterday that my housemate is a Birmingham City fan. I'm an Aston Villa fan. Now, of course when our two teams meet I want Villa to kick arse, but I don't hate Birmingham City like some people would.

Do you hate your rival team or equivalent? I've never really got it. I love Birmingham as a city, and want its teams to do well. That includes West Brom actually, any teams from the West Midlands really. What about you? Hate your fellow city-dwellers 'cause they support a different team? What about nationalities? Can't stand people across the border from you? Don't see the point really, but I'm interested in the views of you lot.

I love everyone.

Except the Welsh.

I hate Liverpool and Chelsea and, whisper, not so much City. I like Arsenal's style of play but if a bad result for them benefits us then I won't be cheering them on.

Other than that it only boils down to certain players of other teams.

I hate Rankers, but since moving to Lanarkshire I've got a slight soft spot for Motherwell.

As someone who really only follows F1, whenever i watch another sport i just picked a side at random to and want them to win generally. I'll always get behind my country though.

I hate teams from cities who don't have the proper name.

Example: Aston Villa, Arsenal, Chelsea, Fulham, Rangers, Celtic, Hearts, Hibs

technically Aston is the proper name, just because its a district rather than a city doesnt make it any less valid.

Im a Forest fan and I HATE Derby, and that's not an understatement, the dirty sheep botherers. But I think it's different when its two cities, rather than two teams from one city.

Although I couldn't give a rats arse about Notts County.

Heart of Midlothian, still a valid name if you ask me. Also, Chelsea and Fulham are areas of London, they can't both be London F.C.

Troll. ;)

Technically neither old firm team has Glasgow in the name.

I always thought it was offically Glasgow Rangers? Then I wouldn't say I'm the expert on Scottish football.

Nah, both get called Glasgow Rangers and Glasgow Celtic. The same way we say Inter Milan really.

ASTON Villa - based in Aston
Chelsea - named after a place, there are too many London clubs for them all to have London in the name
Fulham - ditto
GLASGOW Rangers and GLASGOW Celtic - 'nuff said
Heart OF MIDLOTHIAN

So you only hate Arsenal and Hibs then, and we were originally called Woolwich Arsenal and dropped it when we moved, so you only really hate Hibs, and I'm sure they hate you too...

Oh yeah, and I really hate Spurs! I don't ever want them to go down though, as I'd miss the North London derby.

EDIT - Henke explained the Celtic/Rangers thing while I was typing. You can hate them as well...

I like most teams that aren't going to bore me to death, even Tottenham.

I've also developed a liking for Fulham after their crazy escape from relegation last season.

Although I support Man United and don't really give a flying arse about a league like the SPL, I do have a massive hatred for Rankers.

Not sure why, but there are plenty of reasons.

I support Queen of the South and Celtic, but if the two met I'd be a Queens man.

Rangers and Celtic have one of those rivalries that stems from something beyond football. It's difficult not to develop some sort of dislike for the other side when such emnity exists in the city, but I don't hate the Rankers fans. Much.
