A dark psychological crime drama starring Idris Elba as Luther, a man struggling with his own terrible demons, who might be as dangerous as the depraved murderers he hunts.

9PM Tuesdays

Episode 3 - Link

Since this is BBC really making an effort I thought it best to champion it as much as possible.

I'm watching the first episode now and it's really cracking stuff, there's been a few slightly iffy points; the overly analytical 'clever' interview for one, but other than that it's been really good. Idris is very good and the clip I saw on Jonathan Ross is miles better when you actually get some context to it. The writing (other than that point I mentioned) is really good in general, maybe a little unnatural in places. Same goes for the acting, direction and music especially.

The only other sticking point was the solution to the episodes crime or at least the way it was resolved, to just give up on the case like that seemed a bit ridiculous especially when he'd already explained to other people how it was done :? Also I'm sure he could have quite easily recorded the conversation and had her locked up. It seems like she's going to be involved throughout the rest of the season though so I guess they had a reason for it, just seems like Luther not being able to prove it was her would have been a better way to keep her out of prison.

It seems it's going to be episodic stories with an overall season arc, which to be honest I think I prefer. The synopsis for the next episode sounds belting...
Luther must outmanoeuvre a trained sniper on a mission to gun down police officers.

So, anyone else catch the first ep on Tuesday, what did you think? If not I'd really recommend giving it a punt

Instead of Albearing you could have just copied the post, then deleted it and reposted in OT.

Which you still could have done... had I not replied Image

So nobody else watched this, I know Hugo did. It would be a shame if people just ignored it :(

Never give a crap about BBC dramas but this one has caught my eye because of Mr Stringer Bell, so it's worth a watch then? If so I'll be iPlaying this later

I watched it and thought it was really good, surprisingly. I'll be tuning in on Tuesday again, most likely. Or maybe on the iPlayer.

So who got round to watching the first ep on iPlayer?

I did. Seemed rather clichéd but I'll give it a chance. The editing looked horrible though.

What a bizarre complaint.

Can't say I noticed it was a problem. What about it seemed clichéd :?

The troubled detective with the broken marriage and the intelligent discussions he has with the insane criminal.

When I say editing I mean the overuse of those shots that cut every other split second out.

That I agree with but the first part, I really can't think of a similar detective to Luther
