What sort of ratings has this been getting?

It seems to always do well on the iplayer though, so I'm still optimistic.

Started off with nearly 6 million, then started dropping. Was under 3 million at one point. :(

This was an amazing series, and I enjoyed every last second of it. My only complaint is I'd like to see Luther doing a *little* more detective work in the future, as some of the best scenes were him just generally being clever like when he just knew Alice had killed her parents.

As for the last episode, it was fantastic. Very dark, but superbly executed. Wonderful stuff.

We have 13 days before Ep1 disappears off of iplayer. Best get everyone to watch it before then if we want to see a 2nd Series. Someone start the campaign and make us some sigs.

Well they have no evidence against him and he has the diamonds and the video recording against Ian, he is standing over the dead body though so who knows.

I thought that was the best ep of a great season, my only complaint is that for me personally it is a bit too dark in places, the previous two episodes in particular were a bit too grim.

Idris Elba is a fantastic actor.

How easy would it be to argue that Luther stole the diamonds and forced the confession at gunpoint (which is fairness is what he did) then killed him? He's at the crime scene with a once suspected murderer and a shotgun. Might need to twist in the wife's death and how he became pals with her new bloke.

Okay, pretty tough to pull off but above the body, shotgun, confession. Enough to make you think it'll be tough to walk away from.

Not shocking by any accounts.

A quick search says it got 5.?mil in the first week by the third ep that had dropped to 3.?mil. Couldn't find any other figures but those are considerably more than I was expecting.

Many times over what The Wire was getting and comfortably the highest in its slot. It's also what I would think to be enough to warrant another series.

3m sounds alright. I don't think it will be a major cash sink for what it is so those numbers should be adequate for a second series.

Yes, because a US show exiled to 11.20pm on BBC2 should really be compared, ratings-wise, to a prime-time drama on BBC1.

and comfortably the highest in its slot.

Series with this kind of budget and timeslot tend not to survive without hitting a solid 5 million, unfortunately. And I say that with a heavy heart. I still hope the Beeb will save it on grounds of quality.

They have a video tape of Mcgann taking the diamonds from Ians locker. Also the tape conversation isn't just Ian saying he did it like some dodgy confession.

Also the Internal Affairs guy and Luther's apprentice had both come round to thinking it was Ian before the murder, and Mcgann's character heard the confession of Ian why would he stick up for Luther or still be alive for that matter if Luther was the murderer.

Them three over the body was a fantastic shot though, will be interesting to see how/if that gets resolved.

He was right and all that was in Luther's pocket was a tape recorder

Should be enough to keep him on the team, they allowed Luther and he was clearly unstable

How the strawberry float is he going to explain crazy Alice being there with a smoking shotgun in her hand?

I really hope they make another series.

Just finished watching the series and I'm pleased to say that I'm impressed. The production values were unusually good, Elba was fantastic throughout and the writing was very tight for the most part. Shame that the ratings weren't too good, but then again this is the great British public. They want more of Mr Toad sitting on a gaudy throne telling drama school middle-Englanders if they are enthusiastic enough or washed-up celebrities selling dignity for just a few more minutes of fame.

There's been loads of good stuff on TV recently. Just in the last week we've had The Shadow Line, Stewart Lee, and Psychoville.
