My interview with the game's lead writer http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/mafia-3s-lead- ... ic-1584767

Includes sassiness when a PR decides to butt in

Good news guys. PC Gamer reports that the game is locked to 30 FPS for that cinematic feel. :simper:

Not ideal, but...

A message to our PC players
6/10/2016

We know how important having options that best suit your PC’s performance capabilities are. The team has been hard at work ensuring that Mafia III’s performance is consistent across all platforms, and right now the game runs at a solid 30 frames-per-second. We are currently working on an update for PC that will give players the option to play Mafia III at higher framerates. We’ll share more details about the update, and when you can expect it to arrive, very soon. In the meantime, the team welcomes feedback and would like to hear from you about what performance adjustment options are important to you. We’re actively considering a number of additional post-launch improvements on PC that would give players more control over how they can tailor the game’s experience to suit their rig’s performance. It’s been an incredible journey developing Mafia III and we couldn’t be more excited to get the game in your hands and hear what you think!

Game looks good but I'll be holding off until that update hits.

People who've got it early seem to be saying mostly positive things about it. It doesn't sound *amazing*, but it's also not the wreck many of us feared after learning of no review copies until launch day.

Press X to serve Gumbo.

The animation is in proper uncanny valley territory with the lip sync. It's only just off, but looks really weird for it.

Also, is it telling the story in flashback?

Yeah, it's a mix between the priest and police investigators telling the story, while flashing back to Lincoln. It's neat. Has a real pace to it, and makes it very story-dense.

Got a crash to desktop just now. I'll pick it up again in 5 minutes

Also, the hand to hand combat is strawberry floatin' solid.

Actually, I've just had one of my videos taken down for copyright infringement, so I'm going to stop streaming now.

It felt a bit odd to watch, but I suppose it could work out well. A good way of cutting out filler sections, provided that's what they actually do with it.

It looks alright. Visually fine, the soundtrack sounds great, and the setting is something new, too. Unfortunately, it just looks like the execution is a pretty standard GTA-'em-up, from what I could see. Have they gone for "comedy" radio ads like GTA too? I caught one in your stream, and it's, tonally, completely different from the rest of it. Similar to GTA IV, super serious story with Nico regretting being a terrible man, then loads of crude farcical guff everywhere else. It'll be a real shame if this goes down that route, too. It looks like it might actually be trying to do a semi serious story about racism in America, and it'd be nice to see that done well.

I'll keep an eye on this for some more impressions after release. I'm sure I'll pick it up some time in the future. Thanks for streaming.

I honestly couldn't tell if that advert was trying to be accurate to the period or satirical, tbh.

I think the combat is much better than Grand Theft Auto's, but everything else seems just a little cut rate compared to Rockstar's efforts. It's understandable, given the resources each team has, and keeping in mind that they were probably under a lot of pressure to get it out before this Christmas. It's still a great game in a fantastic setting untouched by GTA, but it's hard not to make the direct comparisons. It doesn't look as nice, it doesn't run as well, it's got a much narrower scope and no online.

But I think timing is everything with this game. You'd never pick up a Mafia game instead of a GTA game, but with the other series on a break right now, it's a very timely release.

Don't worry about the lack of review copies, the definitive verdict is already in.

Didn't realise Unilad did their own reviews, thought the banana splits just stole and uploaded everyone else's content.

It's not even from a review.

2K Share Mafia 3 E3 Trailer And 20 Minutes Of Gameplay

Still, while the trailer above is undeniably fantastic, it seems to be a little light on actual gameplay footage.

But yeah, the "article" is just like any other hit driven cesspit website, "aggregating content", just pasting youtube embeds of a trailer, and gameplay from ign, amongst some words that say nothing more than the press release 2k provided.

Official message regarding above:

UPDATE [10/6 / 6PM PT]: We currently have a patch running here at the studio that includes 30, 60, and unlimited frames-per-second options in the video menu, among other improvements for the PC version of Mafia III. We’re verifying the patch now to ensure everything is working as expected. If everything goes well, we expect the update to go live this weekend. We will be keeping the PC community up-to-date on the status of the patch throughout the weekend and thank you for all the feedback!
