It was almost as if you knew everybody's roles yet deliberately made it harder for the Townsfolk

I think you just got sidetracked of a early argument about nothing and never really recovered.

While he did have the biggest impact on the game I suppose some luck does come into a Detectives job.

A few townsfolk really impressed me.

It didn't seem right to just sit there and do nothing, no discussion or anything. I felt that it left the door wide open for codes and messages to get sneaked out in amongst the inevitable spam so with Aaron so deadset on the dead silence idea I figured he was mafia and then along comes Smurph with his out of blue call on Oblomov then he calls my role wrong then he comes out and says he hasn't seered me or Aaron like he's trying to cover up his mistake :fp:

*dives for cover*

That was hysterical
He literally couldn't have picked a worse person to get the role wrong

Do spill as to who.

I feel I played a good, game, despite being dogged by PCCD the whole time. He just wouldn't let up in the face of logic. Yes, my idea was fallible, but so was his.

In the end, it was him that got me killed, I feel. A shame that he played such a selfish game that I'm now not allowed into the next one.

Mini E - who was going to be killed next?

Players who spun the spotlight onto Mini E on Sunday. Can't remember exact names (I think Drummy was one), it seemed like Saturday night he was in the clear then a handful of people made about a page worth of speculation posts and suddenly he was BANG in the spotlight. I was impressed.

It's where any hope of a Mafia win died, I think.

I'd be interested to know if the Mafia were hiding codes in the first 5 days or what they thought the others were trying to tell them.

To be honest- I hadn't massively thought about it because I knew I was going today. But I guess would have been you or drummy. you were both dead set on me being mafia and quite vocal =)

I hope you don't mind me being critical, Herbi. I appreciate that it was the first attempt and obviously I'm grateful that you even gave us the opportunity to play.

I really don't think it was particularly possible for the Mafia to win this. To give a Detective the ability to identify players and then grant him immunity with a Nurse just seems like a game killer to me. Let's be honest, it was five days of nothing and then almost as if the townsfolk entered a cheat code and were told the players to kill. I tried my best, but I'm afraid my fellow Mafia buddies just weren't really... doing anything to help the cause. Mini E I appreciate couldn't be available much, but Nood did nothing and actually on two occasions I believe was responsible for lack of lynching townsfolk when he decided to vote to do nothing, meaning the vote ended up tied. I was hoping one of them would 'come out' as the real Detective, but no, Mini E wasn't around and Nood just basically admitted to being a Mafia member (I remember several times the response to PCCD and HM's suspicions being "Nood didn't exactly deny being a Mafia member") and also voted to have me lynched even when I had russled up a decent amount of doubt surrounding Smurphy's role. if the two of them had voted for Smurphy on that day, I think that the votes would have gone for him and it could have been a different story.

As far as codes go, I don't see what I could have done. My attempt on the first day obviously went unnoticed, or perhaps the double-bluff wasn't understood. I looked through the sparing posts made by Nood and Mini E but couldn't find anything.

All in all I don't know if it was because the game is imbalanced or it was because I simply wasn't clever enough to pass/pick up on codes in posts, but I would suggest a fair bit of tweaking for the next version.

However, I am truly grateful to you for putting this on as I do enjoy playing these games a lot. I know it takes a lot of time up and it was really cool of you :). I hope I don't come across as too bitter, I'm really just trying to make some constructive criticism and of course getting a few sly digs in at Nood.

That's all understandable.

I do think half the problem was people not knowing how to deal with the role of Mafia and not being able to communicate in secret. I did notice that you seemed to be the only one who was clearly attempting stuff, maybe the others were but were just too subtle about it, or were just waiting for guidance from someone else which is probably not a bad way to play it.

A couple of people asked about the Nurse protection thing via pm and I'll be honest it wasn't something I had thought about so put on the spot I couldn't think of reason the nurse wouldn't be able to protect the same person night after night so I just said they could.
That's an easy fix for next time though.

Balancing things out more (if it needs it) I'm not sure how to do

Out of interest, I don't suppose you still have the Mafia votes for each night? I'd just be interested to see who the three of us voted for. I don't know why .

I'd be in favour of a time limit on how long townsfolk can go without lynching anyone. Stimulates discussion, gives the mafia an opportunity to get messages/codes out. With the detective you could make it so he only has a limited amount of seerings (three maybe?), stops the wait until the detective has seered the mafia then reveals himself and his findings.

Mini E - I was already dead.

And maybe something like the Detective can only seer people on the same night that there's been a lynching? That's might work pretty well, actually. It would make my "buy the detective time" plan just fail instantly.

I'd go with that if he was only allowed to seer after mafia kills (looking for crime scene clues and all that) but I'd change the rule on mafia kills so that the mafia only two people to PM the same name instead of all three.

Yeah it'd probably make more sense if the Nurse couldn't protect the same person night after night. Not that it mattered in this game. :fp:

Sorry to out you as the first Mafia, Oblomov. I seered Nood on the second night (he was barely posting, and being serious. Polar opposite to his usual self) but you raised quite a high profile in the days before I outed you, so I felt you had to go first. ;)

Mini E was quite low on my suspect list. Had I kept seering people without revealing myself (which would have been rubbish), I wouldn't have got to him for ages. Once I was dead my money was on Goat. The devious bastard.

Or at least a majority vote vote (if you get say, 4 Mafia Members, then 3 need to vote for the same person. If there's 5 than 3 need to vote, etc etc).

That should balance it out, I'd say.
