Well...I'm interested. Even if it's just to see 255 people tea-bag one poor guy.

Form an orderly line, lads.

Still not convinced FPS is the way to go with this type of game. Still, looking forward to see what type of experience this will deliver.

Could go either way, this. Doesn't look terribly exciting, but then I don't think that's the aim. If they can get 256 players in one match working, then it's going to be very interesting indeed. I'm doubtful, but it's a bit unfair to write this off as 'average' and 'generic' just yet. Considering what they're trying, I don't think it's likely to be either. Whether it's actually good or not? Well, that's another matter.

Knowing them, they'll have 256 people in a completely lagless environment...but then include a PTT system :fp:
I wonder if it'll share many similarities with Warhawk. It sounds like it might do.

That's no bad thing. SOCOM uses a PTT system, however, it actually makes sense in that type of game. People around you can still hear chatter so you don't need to PTT but for other people, say down the other end of a street or at the other side of a map, they need to use it. It adds immersion to the experience and encourages teamwork.

Plus you don't get all the bullshit that you would normally expect.

Indeed. Warhawk wasn't suited for PTT because you needed all four shoulder buttons and both sticks to fly, meaning it had to be mapped to L3, which sucks balls.

SOCOM's chat system is incredible, both in terms of strategic use of the channel, and immersion.

I think they will go with Team Only option for voice chat. With the numbers they plan to use, you really need to cull the idiots from talking as much as possible.

I love the idea of Battlefield with huge numbers but huge numbers does not always equal good fun to play. Skillfully done it could be amazing but I am guessing the griefing, camping and spamming could be MAG's downfall if not addressed early on.

it would be cool if there was a option, where there was just a flat map with nothing on it. then we could charge at each other

Judging on the apparent style of game that MAG seems to be, I can only see a PTT being nothing but a hinderance.

With 256 players, pushing a button to talk would be strawberry floating terrible. Not that I care, I dont even use a mic and have everyone on mute on both 360 and ps3. Talking in game is overrated.

My man Jiggles explained it all to me. The SOCOM method sounds really, really cool.
So yeah, I'll take that.

I dunno, it's be kinda like the field radios the army use. They're PTT. They attach a button to the stock of their rifles.

Yeah that's the analogy I was given - like a walkie talkie of sorts.

They will probably do the Squad can talk to each other and the Leader of that Squad can talk to the Leaders of the other Squads...maybe.

A good clan integration will be what makes or breaks MAG. Having 256 randoms running around, not listening to orders and spamming grenades does not sound like fun to me.
