Looks beautifully generic, just like all of Sony's other shooters.

I agree on that. Looks sort of like a cross between Half Life 2 and Battlefield BC.

This will on rest on how well people can integrate into teams. If this just descends into a free-for-all without tactics it will fail. If we have teams who make plans for assaults with fire support, snipers and medics then this could be epic but I just don't think the PS3 is up to the task of running all that game information quickly enough.
I hope I'm wrong but I think they are adding nice visuals into a game that just wont be able to handle it due to the scale they are after.

The PS3 will have no problem running that. The level of technical things going on in those shots is incredibly low. It looks very basic indeed. It's all just textures doing the work there. Those shots have also been touched up as hell in photoshop. It's very reminiscient of the Source engine as well. It seems like the most taxing thing being done in that engine is the shadowing if it's dynamic, even if it isn't it still looks like the most taxing thing going on.

The PS3 should easily be up to the task if the engine is custom built to run it. PCs which are basic by todays standards can easily run HL2 online with lots of players. Counter Strike Source itself is great to play on a basic PC. Resistance is pulling off 60 player matches isn't it? The only thing that will ruin this game is the playing community.

The only worry I have with this game is PSN itself, it has issues enough with the relatively limited numbers on existing games, Sony are gonna have to do a lot of work on PSN to avoid this being a total disaster.

The lack of proper shadowing / ambient occlusion makes all the characters look as though they're floating. Very odd, but I guess it's a small price to pay if they can get that number of players together on a single map.

Some severe clipping issues in that second screenshot.

Yeah, I don't think it's completely bullshot either...as in it doesn't look technically advanced in any way. Clipping and poor ground textures give it away some but I don't think that it'll have the AA these shots show.

EDIT: Of note it's worth mentioning that this seems to be a FPS rather then SOCOM's TP viewpoint...which would be a shame.

If every one of those characters is an actual player, including the parachute dudes, then that looks amazing.

There's gonna have to be a hell of a lot of tweaking to stop it just becoming a mass of explosions and death. Battlefield 2's 64 player games never descended into anarchy, there was always a load of tactics and individual squads moving around. But so far that's the only game I've ever seen get it right, and this is meant to have what, over 4 times as many players?

In the end though, sadly this game's going to have to appeal to as wide and audience as possible, which (without some very, very good design) automatically stops it becoming what it could be.

Haven't those players heard of cover in those last few pics? They're all standing out in the complete open, brazenly shooting.

Like the way they photoshopped those planes in on shots 4 and 5, they look like sprites, exactly the same.

Can't wait to try it though.
